Games - Larry Emdur

Larry Emdur (born December 9, 1964) is an Australian media personality, most known for his role hosting game shows, particulary The Price is Right. He currently hosts Wheel of Fortune on the Seven Network.

Early life/career

Before entering the Australian media, Emdur had a passion for surfing as a youngster, born & bred in Bondi. A screenwriter, television host, former reporter and newsreader, Larry has been a part of the Australian media for over two decades. He had trouble with every subject in school & dropped out at 15. Emdur began his career as a copyboy at the Sydney Morning Herald, before moving into television where aged 17 he became Australia’s youngest national newsreader presenting the overnight news for Seven Network in Australia.

Larry is perhaps best known to Australian audiences for his four prime time, but poor-rating, game shows including Ca$h Bonanza, and the Australian versions of Family Double Dare and The Price is Right.

The Price is Right

Emdur will perhaps be best-known as the host of The Price is Right, which he had hosted for a record breaking five years from 1993 to 1998, before its cancellation. It was then revived in 2003, before it was cancelled again in October 2005. Both versions aired on Australia's Nine Network. Emdur had a certain rapport with the housewives of Australia and on stage, made some of them weak at the knees due to his icon-like status (and buck-toothed smile) to them. His charisma and the banter with voiceover Shawn Cosgrove was also popular.

Post-Price is Right

After a short-lived retirement following the cancellation of The Price is Right, Larry has returned to Australian television on 30 January 2006, as host of the Seven Network's Wheel of Fortune. His contract with Seven was signed mere hours after his deal with the Nine Network expired. While in the first few weeks of his run with Seven's Wheel in the 5pm weekday timeslot, Larry continued to appear on Nine in reruns of The Price is Right, until Bert's Family Feud
took over Price's 5:30pm timeslot in mid-February 2006.
