| Latias (ラティアス Ratias in Japan, also Latias in Germany and France) is a fictional character in the Pokémon franchise. She is one of only two Legendary Pokémon to have a gender. The other is her supposed brother, Latios. Latias' name might have been derived from the Latin word" 'latere' (as in latent), which means 'to lie hidden', 'to be invisible'. Latias' name is merely a romanization of its Japanese name, Ratiasu. Many fans believe that Latias' father is the Legendary Pokemon, Lugia. In Pokemon Heroes, Latias' father is a first Latios. CharacteristicsLatias is a red-and-white dragon/bird like creature with small arms and feet, and spiky wings on its back. Though it appears to have white flesh underneath the red carapace, it is actually covered with loads of very small feathers made to look smooth by a glass-like coat of shiny down. It has a traingle shaped blue marking on it's belly that is similar of a Togepi/Togetic marking. It is able to alter its appearance with this coat by enfolding its body with its down and refracting light in unique ways. With this it can seemingly transform into a human person, or render itself invisible like a chameleon (compare with Kecleon).Latias is highly sensitive to the emotions of people and can telepathically communicate with people. If it senses any hostility, this Pokémon ruffles the feathers all over its body and cries shrilly to intimidate the foe. It therefore rarely makes contact with people or other Pokémon. They often disappear if they sense enemies or people with the hostilities as described above. Latias, though rare, is not a one-of-a-kind Pokémon like other Legendary Pokémon. They have been occasionally sighted in small herds of several members. Likewise, it is not excluded from competetive play like the Battle Frontier (Same applies to Regirock, Regice, and Registeel. In the videoIn Pokémon Sapphire, after beating the Elite Four, your television will flash and display a news broadcast of a red Pokémon soaring the skies. Latias will then appear anywhere in Hoenn except caves. She runs away after every encounter, similar to the Legendary beasts of Pokémon Gold and Silver. She moves in a pattern around Hoenn, and can be tracked on the Pokédex. Using any HM except Surf causes Latias to move far from her point at that moment. You can continuously attack Latias every encounter, eventually making her weak enough to capture. She is level 40.In Pokémon Ruby, Latias does not appear during normal gameplay, unless you acquire the e-card of the Eon Ticket, allowing you to access Southern Island where you can catch Latias at level 50, and holding the Soul Dew. In Pokémon Emerald, after beating the Elite Four, the television simply mentions a flying Pokémon. Your mother asks what color it was, and if you say red, then you will find Latias. To catch Latias(or Latios, depending on if you said red or blue to your mom), first find a patch of grass(I would recommend near Lilycove) and save. Then restart, and look near patches of grass. If the first Pokemon you encounter is not Latias, do NOT save and turn off your boy and try again. It might take a while, but it always works. In Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, you can trade Latias from R/S/E after fixing the network machine. Latias is a highly capable Dragon/Psychic-type Pokemon with hefty statistics and a wide movepool (including the trademark Mist Ball Psychic attack). However, compared to Latios, Latias eschews offense for defense. It depends on the player to decide whether this is an improvement. As a Legendary Pokemon, it is banned from competitive play and is widely used where accepted, such as the tournaments in Pokemon Colosseum. Anime AppearancesLatias and her brother Latios appeared in the fifth Pokémon Movie, Pokémon Heroes, as guardians of the Venice-like city of Altomare. By the movie's end, Latias is the new sole guardian of the city, though it seems she did bear children, as she is seen with two Latios. Latias is capable of disguising herself as a human girl.[ Visit the complete Wikipedia entry for Latias ] | Searches on eBayRelated searches on eBay |
