Lindsey Michelle Cardinale (born February 5, 1985 in Hammond, Louisiana), is an American singer and finalist on the fourth season
of American Idol
.

Biography

Cardinale was born in Hammond, Louisiana on February 5, 1985 to Agnes and Anthony Cardinale. In 1991, when she was six years old, she and her family moved to Ponchatoula, Louisiana. She has an older sister, Lori. She is a 2003 graduate of Ponchatoula High School, where she was a member of the advanced choir. She is a radiology-major university student who also plays guitar, piano and drums.

Cardinale started singing from an early age. Her first song was "Part of Your World" from Disney's The Little Mermaid.

Her favorite male artists are Sammy Kershaw and Willie Nelson. Her favorite female artists are Sara Evans and Lee Ann Womack.

Cardinale's primary genre is country but she also does southern rock and rock.

American Idol

Cardinale auditioned in New Orleans with Karla Bonoff's "Standing Right Next to Me". In the Hollywood rounds, she sang "Ain't No Mountain High Enough", "Sugar Pie Honey Bunch" (along with semi-finalist Melinda Lira and fellow finalist Jessica Sierra
), and "The Woman in Me." She went on to the three-round semi-finals composed of the top 12 girls and top 12 guys. There she sang "Standing Right Next to Me", "I Try To Think About Elvis", and "I Don't Wanna Miss a Thing". She made it to the top 12 alongside 11 others. On March 16, 2005, she was the first of the final 12 contestants from AI Season 4 to be voted off after her performance of "Knock on Wood" during the 1960s-theme music week. She appeared at Ponchatoula's Strawberry Festival shortly after her elimination where she thanked her hometown for their contributions that helped her place 12th out of 100s of thousands of auditions. She was included on a charity album with the other 11 finalists to benefit Red Cross Tsunami Relief Fund.

During the Idol run, Cardinale was often paired up alongside Carrie Underwood
, also a small town country singer from the Southern United States.

Post-Idol career

As a native of the New Orleans area, it was thought that she may have been injured or killed during Hurricane Katrina, but she has told the media that she heeded evacuation orders and evacuated to Nashville, Tennessee, and has since returned home (which was not seriously damaged) to work in the relief efforts.

Cardinale is currently the model and spokesperson for the Bill Hood Automotive Family in Louisiana. She is working in Nashville with a Grammy Award-winning record producer on her debut album.
