The world of Square Co., Ltd.'s computer role-playing game Final Fantasy III can be divided into two major parts: the Floating Continent, on which the first portion of the game takes place, and the land beneath, where the game concludes. Major destinations in both parts include:
- Altar Cave - Where the adventure begins. Four orphans find themselves in the middle of the cramped cave after falling through a hole on its first floor. Here the party finds the Wind Crystal and receive their first job classes.
- Ur Village - Home to the four orphans and their adoptive parents Topapa and Nina.
- Kazus Village - A village cursed by the fire-demon Jinn's incantation. Cid can be found here, offering his airship in exchange for helping him return to his home in Canaan.
- Cave of the Seal - The residence of Jinn, a fire-demon wreaking havoc on the kingdom of Sassoon. The orphans meet Princess Sara here, one of the few not affected by the curse and on her way to vanquish the fiendish Jinn.
- Sassoon Castle - The residence of the royal family of the Sassoon kingdom on the Floating Continent. It is affected by the Jinn's evil curse.
- Canaan Village - Cid's home and village adjacent to Bahamut's Mountain and Nest. Unfortunately, Cid's airship must be sacrificed in order to clear a path towards the town.
- Bahamut's Mountain - Home to Bahamut, king of the Dragons. Upon reaching the summit, the orphans get scooped into the creatures nest where they meet Desh, a young man suffering from amnesia.
- Tozas Village - The village of tiny people. One must be under the affliction of the "Mini" spell in order to find and enter it. A path from one of the houses leads to the Viking Base.
- Viking Base - A stronghold for the Vikings who are trapped because of the attacks of Nepto the Sea Dragon God. The Viking leader appeals to the party for help here; upon their return from ending the rage of Nepto, the party is rewarded a sailing ship (The Enterprise) here.
- Nepto Shrine - A temple built for the sole purpose of worshipping the Sea Dragon God Nepto. The party must retrieve the missing eye from the Nepto idol in order to alleviate the creature's madness.
- Tokkle Village - A backwoods village left in shambles after the attacks of Hyne the Wizard's army. At one point, the party gets captured by Hyne's henchmen here.
- Argass Castle - The location of the fabled Time Gear. Also the location from where Hyne usurped power from the King of Argass prior to using the Master Tree as his main base of operations.
- Ancients' Village - A small village of little relevance on the southwest end of the Floating Continent. A chocobo forest can be found nearby.
- Valley of the Gurgans - The dwelling place of the Gurgans, blind prophets who foretold the coming of the earthquake that submerged the Wind Crystal.
- Tower of Owen - The powerhouse of the Floating Continent; it actually is responsible for keeping the land mass in the sky. It is the home of Medusa as well as where Desh recalls his true identity: the keeper of the Tower of Owen.
