After the death of his parents, he decided to go on a personal quest with his trusty companion Boco, a chocobo. He's an easygoing guy with an unfortunate fear of heights, and a tendency to get crushes on any female he meets.During his visit to the Tycoon region, a large meteor crashes nearby, and upon investigation he discovers a young lady named Reina and an old man who can only remember that his name is Galuf Halm Baldeison. The girl reveals that she is the daughter of the king of Tycoon, and that she is in search of her father who had been to the wind temple and had not returned. Bartz decides he has better things to do and parts ways; Galuf opts to go with Reina. However, before Bartz is able to go much further, Boco stops dead in his tracks, and forces Bartz to help the young lady and the old man. He reluctantly admits to his chocobo friend that he is worried about the two, and goes off in their direction. He finds them near a cave by the sea, where they are being chased by goblins. After some quick work on the fiends, he agress to travel with the two. Inside the cave they find a band of pirates, led by an effeminate man, whose ship sails when there is no wind. They attempt to sneak aboard, but are discovered and captured. However, their captain, Faris Scherwiz, releases them when he notices that Reina carries the same medallion around her neck that he has. He reveals that the reason his ship is able to sail on its own is due to the fact that his childhood friend, Hydra the sea dragon, carries the boat on its back. After leaving the pirate crew in a small village called Tule, the four head to the Wind Temple. At the top of the tower they find that the wind crystal had been shattered, and that Reina's father was being controlled by the magician X-Death. They are revealed to be the four Dawn Warriors, and are bestowed powers from the shattered pieces of the crystal which grant them the powers of various warriors such as Knights, Black Mages and Theives. Bartz later discovers that his father Drogan was one of the original four Warriors of the Dawn, and 30 years ago he helped seal X-death with the power of the crystals. Reina Charlotte TycoonReina Charlotte Tycoon (レナ・シャルロット・タイクーン) is a typical video game princess; kind, smart and free-spirited. She has a self-sacrificial streak that puts her in danger several times in the game. Her father is King Alexander Highwind Tycoon of Tycoon Castle.Bartz first meets Reina by the Tycoon meteor, where he is momentarily sidetracked by some goblins. After Bartz defeats them, she admits that since the wind stopped, her father had gone to the Wind Temple and been missing for quite some time. They then meet a mysterious old man with amnesia whose only memory is his name, Galuf Halm Baldeison. Reina then continues on her journey to the Wind Temple with Galuf. However, before she can even make it to the shore, a group of goblins attack and she has to be rescued once again. In the nearby cave, the three of them are captured by a group of pirates. Their leader, Faris Scherwiz discovers that Reina wears the same pendent he does, and curiousity gets the best of him and he releases them. Faris then agrees to aid them on their quest to the Wind Temple. When they finally make it to the top of the tower, Reina is shocked to find that her father is being controlled by X-Death. Then Wind crystal shatters, and her father disappears. She is deeply saddened by this because she thinks her father is dead now. However, more important issues arise when she is revealed to be one of the four Warriors of the Dawn, and receives powers from the crystal shards. She then must set aside her own feelings and continue on to the other temples to save the remaining crystals. Later, the group is shipwrecked and ends up in a place called the Ship Graveyard, and Faris is revealed to be a woman disguised as a man. It is later revealed that Faris is in fact her sister Sarisa, who was lost at sea many years before. Reina has a particular liking for Dragons, and all animals for that matter. This is evident when the team climbs to the top of North Mountain and she risks her life in order to save the last Dragon. The player later hears a story about Reina when she was little. Her mother was very ill, and the only way to cure her was with a dragon's tongue. After hearing this, despite her great love for animals, Reina rushed out to the royal dragon with a knife and was prepared to cut off its tongue. This would have killed the dragon, but at the last moment her father stopped her, and her mother passed away.
