Games - Lucario

Lucario (ルカリオ Lucario/Rukario in Japanese) is a recently released fictional character in the Pokémon
franchise. It was the second fourth-generation Pokémon
to be revealed, after Munchlax
.

It appears in the 8th Pokémon movie, Pokemon: Lucario and the Mystery of Mew. Lucario is most likely a legendary Pokémon, because of its relationship with Mew
in this movie.

Lucario's name has been speculated by some to be a corruption of Oracle in Japanese, although this has not been confirmed.

Initially, most people tended to refer to this Pokémon as Rukario, which is simply a basic Hepburn romanization of ルカリオ.

Characteristics

The physical appearance of Lucario is based on Anubis, the Egyptian God of the Underworld.

Lucario seems to wield a power named "Hadō" (Japanese for surge or wave), though whether this is the Japanese name of his signature attack, or the name of his fighting style, or his source of power somehow, is up for debate until the American releases of Diamond & Pearl and the eighth Pokémon movie.

The word Hadō is commonly used as "Hadōken" with Ryu
from the Street Fighter series.

In the video games

Lucario is likely a legendary Pokémon appearing in the upcoming Nintendo DS
versions of Pokémon, Diamond and Pearl, though nothing about its role in the games is known yet. However, Coro Coro Magazine has revealed that its elemental types are Steel and Fighting, a previously unseen type combination.

In Pokemon: Fushigi no Dungeon, 15,000 Rescue Points or more will result in "Lucario Rank" and a reward statue next to your house in the shape of Lucario.

In the anime

In the opening sequence to the American dub of Pokémon Advanced Battle, Lucario is seen resting on a tree with Mew flying around it. This is no indication that he is actually going to make an official appearance in the show as most of the other openings have shown Legendary Pokemon that don't appear very much and often not in that series at all (Mew
and Mewtwo
in particular), It is most likely due to the fact it was taken from the 9th Japanese opening (some of the other clips were as well) which aired after the eighth movie which takes place at the end of the 8th season. The 9th season, which is the "Battle Frontier" season, which happens to take place in Kanto instead of Hoenn. It is not known whether Lucario makes an official appearance in the 9th season either, for his appearance in the eighth movie seems to be his main role in the franchise.

Note: In the US Advanced Battle opening, the scene with Lucario was recently replaced with one of Pikachu using Iron Tail.

Lucario is the main Pokémon
star in the upcoming movie "Pokémon: Lucario and the Mystery of Mew." Lucario is a servant to a noble of the Renaissance-themed city of Rohta named Aaron. Given what Lucario apparently says in the Japanese version, Lucario sees himself as Aaron's slave. After Aaron seals him up in his scepter at the film's outset, Lucario begins questioning any human/Pokémon
relationship (compare with Mewtwo
).

Lucario demonstrates an adeptness to Wave Guidance.

In other media

In the Pokémon Trading Card Game
, Lucario is one of the Pokémon featured in the Japanese eighth movie half-deck. Also, there have been several other Japanese promotional cards depicting Lucario, alongside promotional cards featuring the other Generation 4 Pokémon. Lucario hasn't appeared in a US card yet.
