Games - Marth

Marth (Japanese: マルス Marusu) is a fictional swordfighter from the Fire Emblem
series of video games. He stars in Fire Emblem: Ankoku Ryuu to Hikari no Tsurugi, Fire Emblem: Monshō no Nazo, and he also appears as an unlockable character in Super Smash Bros. Melee. He is the first character to be in the Lord class in the Fire Emblem series. He was also the only Lord to keep his position during two Fire Emblem games.

Fire Emblem: Ankoku Ryuu to Hikari no Tsurugi (Book 1)

He used to be the Prince of Aritia (aka Altea), however, he was eventually exiled from his continent of Akaneia. He was exiled to Talis after his father was killed, and his sister Ellis was taken hostage. As a direct descendant of the legendary hero Anri, Marth had to use the divine sword Falchion in order to slay the dark dragon Medeus.

Fire Emblem: Monshō no Nazo (Book 2)

After Marth slayed Medeus, Hardin betrayed him and seized Aritia.

Super Smash Bros. Melee

Marth is unlocked when the player has used all the regular (non-unlockable) characters in Regular Match mode or Versus mode at least once. Marth uses his Falchion as his main weapon. As one of the four swordfighters in Super Smash Brothers Melee (alongside Roy
, Link
, and Young Link), he has a considerably long reach. The tip of his blade - its "sweet spot" - is markedly stronger than the middle of his blade. His only real weaknesses are a lack of projectile attacks, poor endurance, and a relative inability to attack anyone behind him. However, his power, long reach, high speed, and deadly combos make him a formidable foe. Marth is considered a top-tier combatant by the competitive Smash community. The tip of Marth's blade is stronger than the tip of Roy's blade. Likewise, the center of Roy's blade is stronger than the center of Marth's blade.

Notes and Trivia

Marth is also the focal character of the Fire Emblem anime. He was voiced by Hikaru Midorikawa in the anime and in Super Smash Bros. Melee.

In the western localization of the anime (released by ADV Films), he is instead referred to as "Mars". However with the release of Super Smash Bros. Melee, NOA has officially localized his name as "Marth".

It is unknown whether or not the installments prior to the international expansion of the Fire Emblem series will be released outside of Japan as downloadable games on Nintendo's code-named video game console, Revolution.
