| Mikey Bustos was an Asian Canadian singer on the Hit canadian television show Canadian Idol. He was voted through into the finals in the first group to perform. He was known for his signature blue contact lenses. Mikey Bustos Biography Mikey Bustos, 24, has always captivated audiences with his craft since early childhood. Beyond the sheer marvel of his voice, his brilliance as a singer placed him in an exceptional category that earned him a reputation for igniting the crowd with his mercurial vocalese show after show. He placed 8th in the Top 11 finals of Canadian Idol Season One in August 2003, a show which broke all barriers becoming the most watched television show in all of Canadian Network Television history, with an average of 3.6 million viewers tuning in each week. From his very first audition where he floored the four judges, he won the hearts of millions, establishing the largest fan base early in the competition, and made headlines all over the country. Chart Attack Magazine stated, "If we were to lay our bets today, ChartAttack’s money would be on Toronto contestant Mikey Bustos, a slightly strange looking young man with a shaved head and the voice of an angel..." and the Metro Toronto Newspaper called him "the Sexy, Smoothed-voiced Balladeer". Headlines called it the best audition to ever grace Canadian Idol Season One.Online, in the Canadian Idol forums the buzz on Mikey Bustos exploded and he instantly became the most anticipated and most talked about singer in the competition. Mikey recorded two songs with the major recording label BMG/Vik Recordings Canada for the Canadian Idol Compilation album with BMG/Vik Recordings, which sold excess GOLD on the Soundscan Billboard charts on second day of release, and ranked in the Top 5 best selling Canadian album in its debut week. In turn, this also made Mikey Bustos a record-breaker within the ethnic, Asian community, being the first Filipino Canadian singer in Canadian Music History to ever sing a feature track on a gold-selling Canadian record. In fact, Mikey was the first Filipino singer to ever make the elite Top 10 finals in any Idol series in any country. Although the whole Canadian Idol Top 11 that year were not given the opportunity to tour, it did not stop Mikey from embarking on what became a 4 month solo road tour from Vancouver to Toronto and various places in Ontario and the United States. The demand for his performances necessitated that Mikey traveled constantly performing and attending events throughout the continent. He has performed at countless events and thrown innumerable showcases at venues throughout his road tour performances, including the Ricoh Coliseum, the Skydome (now the Roger Dome), the Kentucky Derby Stadium/Museum, John Basset Theatre, Princess of Whales Theatre, Toronto Centre For the Arts, Nathan Phillips Square, Hamilton Place, Kingswood Music Theatre - Paramount Canada's Wonderland, and the Toronto Congress Centre. Mikey has shared the stage with countless artists including the Temptations, Ruben Studdard, Clay Aiken, and Canadian Superstar Hip Hop artist Maestro "Fresh Wes" to name a few. He has also performed with international superstars from abroad including Freestyle and Side A. Mikey has also had special guest appearances and interviews at numerous radio stations including CHUM FM, CFMT, Z 103.5 FM, Flow 93.5 FM, Mix 99.9 FM, AM 680 News, RP 101.3 FM, and CHIN Ottawa FM, CKMS 100.3 FM Waterloo, and has several times appeared on national television broadcast stations like CTV (Etalk Daily/Canada AM Live), CBC, local stations like Omni1 and Rogers (Daytime Toronto), and has had features on international broadcasts like the Filipino Channel. In 2004 Mikey recorded, performed, and mastered his craft in New York City residing in Queens and Manhattan. Mikey had the opportunity to work and record with acclaimed producer Glenn Swan (Madonna/Mariah Carey/Tupac Shakur/Notorious B.I.G./Jodeci) of the renowned Chung King studios. He also was able to meet several high profile personalities in the Big Apple, including Violator Management, Motown/Universal Records, Arista, Jive, and Pelle Pelle. Mikey’s clothing sponsors to date include several major clothing corporations like Guess?, Le Chateau, and Pelle Pelle. Mikey finally released his long awaited debut EP record entitled "Love Me Again" on May the 7th, 2005 produced by Brent Bodrug (Alanis Morissette/Jack Soul/Sugar Jones) of B-Group Music, and featuring writing collaborations with Rob Patterson (Snow/Kalan Porter), Dean McTaggart (Amanda Marshall), and Rebecca Valadez (Janet Jackson). Mikey's "Love Me Again" EP is available at all HMV locations across Canada, as well as other retail stores within the GTA. When asked for a description of his musical style Mikey explains, "It's Pop rock drenched with soul and funk influences; adult contemporary with some edge; Nice tones integrated with some rasp; there's a real duality to the music. There's both a pleasant sound to it and also a grungey sound to it, too. A mix of both worlds... kind of like myself..." His future and in transit projects include filming a debut music video, the launching of a Canadian/American/Philippines "Love Me Again" concert tour, bringing his craft overseas to Asia and the Philippines, and the completion of a full-length album.
