In the SatAM, Archie comics (which followed on from SatAM) and Sonic Underground continuities of the Sonic the Hedgehog universe, Mobotropolis is the capital city of the planet Mobius.Robotropolis
When Dr. Robotnik took control of Mobius (by overthrowing the previous monarchy in a coup d'etat), he invaded the capital city and transformed it into an industrial wasteland. Then renamed Robotropolis, it became Robotnik's seat of power.SatAM and Archie continuities
In the SatAM and Archie comics continuities, Mobotropolis had once been ruled by the House of Acorn, until King Acorn had been deposed by his treacherous War Minister, Julian Kintobor, who later adopted the sinister moniker of Dr. Robotnik. Julian was a trusted advisor of the king, but was evil at heart. The king, and the rest of the royal family, were sent into exile. As soon as Julian, who had now re-christened his name as "Robotnik" (Kintobor spelled backwards) took over, he roboticized the citizens (as many as his army could get). (This, by the way would be the SATAM, Archie and Sonic Underground's tie in (one of only a few) with the games, as Robotnik is in "charge" of the Robots, although unlike the games, organic lifeforms in these continuities are actually roboticized, rather then "trapped" inside). Eventually, in Archie, Robotnik himself was deposed (by being wiped from existence in a failed experiment), and the House of Acorn resumed power, restoring Mobotropolis temporarily to its former glory. However, the arrival of an alternate-universe version of Robotnik spelled disaster for Mobotropolis, which once again became Robotropolis. Robotropolis was destroyed in a nuclear attack by Station Square. The harmful fallout is currently kept within the former site of the city by a shield originally designed to protect Robotropolis.Sonic Underground
In the popular television series Sonic Underground, the former ruler of Mobotropolis had been Queen Aleena Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog's own mother. Sonic himself, along with his siblings Manic and Sonia, were heirs to the throne, and fated to one day form a council of four with their mother and take back control of Mobius.Sonic Anime
