Games - Mog

Mog is a fictional character of the Square Co., Ltd.'s computer role-playing game Final Fantasy VI. He (assuming Mog is male) is a moogle.

"Human-loving, fast-talking, street-smart, SLAM-dancing... Moogle..."

He is first encountered near his home in the Narshe mines. Mog joins the party after being rescued from the thief Lone Wolf in the World of Balance
. He can also be found in the Moogle Cave of the Narshe Mines in the World of Ruin
, whether or not the player chooses not to save him earlier in the game. Thus, although he is one of the 12 main characters, it is possible to play the game without ever recruiting Mog. Mog is notably the only Moogle in the game to speak English. He also has, as his above in-game description implies, has a rather rude, street-like way of talking.

Mog was born on May 11th, making him a Taurus.

Dance

Mog's Dance skill changes the environment of the battle and randomly invokes one of four skills; some skills are much more common during each dance than others. After successfully starting a dance, Mog will carry on dancing until he is KO'd and revived or the battle ends, making Dancing an alternate form of "berserk" status. Dances are learned after winning a battle in the appropriate environment.

The dances are:
  • Wind Song (Cockatrice, Plasma, Sun Bath, Wind Slash) -- learned from fighting on plains/grasslands.
  • Forest Suite (Elf Fire, Rage, Harvester, Wombat) -- learned from fighting in forests.
  • Desert Aria (Antlion, Kitty, Sand Storm, Wind Slash) -- learned from fighting in deserts.
  • Love Sonata (Elf Fire, Snare, Specter, Tapir) -- learned from fighting in towns.
  • Earth Blues (Land Slide, Sonic Boom, Sun Bath, Whump) -- learned from fighting in mountains.
  • Water Rondo (El Nino, Plasma, Specter, Wild Bear) -- learned from fighting in watery regions (the Serpent Trench or the Lete River).
  • Dusk Requiem (Cave In, Elf Fire, Poison Frog, Snare) -- learned from fighting in caverns.
  • Snowman Jazz (Ice Rabbit, Snare, Snowball, Surge) -- learned from fighting in the snowy hills behind Narshe.
NOTE: The Water Rondo dance can only be learned in the World of Balance, while the Snowman Jazz cannot be learned until the World of Ruin (the area exists in the World of Balance, but no monsters are encountered). If the player either misses the chance to recruit Mog at all, or opts to take the Gold Hairpin instead, the Water Rondo will be unlearnable for that game.

NOTE: Although it may just be a random Moogle instead, Mog frequently appears in the game to explain to the player how to progress in the next sequence. For example, Mog explains how to create and control multiple parties early in the game. The Moogle which gives the player a chance to save in between scenarios when the party first splits up, however, is Mog, as is evidenced by his status screen.

Quotes

First human words spoken: Thankupo!

Upon joining the party: That old psycho Ramuh told me to be expecting you! And now...I'm...gonna join your party!

Upon being rescued in the World of Ruin: Kupo! You're alive! I thought you were all feeding the worms!

After being rescued by a crane during the collapse of Kefka's Tower: The hair, watch the hair man!

  • Ending Theme -- 3, 15
