Games - Movie Battles

Movie Battles II is a team-based modification based off of the LucasArts
/Raven Software
shooter game, Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy. The game pits one team of Galactic Empire/Separatist forces versus the Rebel Alliance/Galactic Republic forces, won by completing an objective (which varies from map to map) to eliminating all members of the enemy team. The first incarnation of Movie Battles was developed for the previous game in the series, Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast. It was featured in the UK edition of PC Gamer
magazine, issue 152.

Gameplay

Movie Battles II is a team based first-person shooter (although you may switch to third person) game, in which the player joins the Imperial/Separatist forces (The "bad" guys) or the Rebel/Republic forces (The "Good" guys). Each round commences with 5:00 minutes on the timer, and the two teams spawning in their respective spawn points simultaneously. The amount of starting/minimum points varies from server to server, but the maximum amount is 80, with the minimum amount of points being no lower than 4. The bonuses are as follows:
  • Survive a round: 4 points
  • Kill an enemy: 1 point
  • Complete an objective: 5 points
In a fashion similar to the force point purchase in the base game, the player uses their points to buy abilities and upgrades for their chosen class. The scoreboard (typically accessed by pressing the "TAB" key) shows a list of all players, separated by team. If an enemy has purchased the "Reinforcements" skill, then they do not count as a "frag" point until their last life has been taken. This scoreboard displays the latency of all the players as well as the kills/deaths of all players. The number of lives the players on your team have left to live are also displayed on the scoreboard.

Any players who are killed before the end of the round become spectators. They may follow certain players who are still alive or free-roam in the spectator cam. Server settings may prohibit the spectators from being heard by the living. The Movie Battles mod has some movie-realistic aspects and others which are merely created in the issue of balance. One of the most often heard quotes on the forums from the developers is one of "Balance over realism," to the many requests made of them.

Somewhat similar to Counter-Strike
, the Movie Battles II mod has many different objective types available, varying from map to map. Maps bearing the "CMP" designation are part of a recognized map pack put together by the community, the letters CMP standing for Community Map Pack.

Official Maps

MB2_Cloudcity has a frozen Han Solo NPC, in position of the Imperials. It is up to the Imperials to escort Solo over to the Slave I, close to the Rebellion spawn point. Imperials escort the Solo NPC simply by standing at one end of it and walking forward. Note that your movement speed will be reduced somewhat while pushing the NPC. The Rebellion can win by stealing the NPC from the Imperials and escorting him to the Millennium Falcon, near the Imperial spawn point. The Rebellion wins when the 5 minute timer runs out.

MB2_TantiveIV has a small R2-D2
NPC, which must be escorted to one of several escape points by the Rebels. There is a one-time brief activation period, in which the Rebel who chooses to escort the NPC must "hack" it by holding the Use key on it. After this, pressing Use again will cause R2-D2 to follow you. The Imperials must kill the NPC to win. The Rebellion wins when the 5 minute timer runs out or R2 reaches an escape point.

MB2_Korriban features an Imperial Commander NPC, which must be escorted to an escape point by the Imperials. The Commander NPC functions also via pressing the Use key. The Rebellion wins upon assassinating the Commander. The Imperials win via escorting the commander to an exit successfully, or when the 5 minute timer runs out.

MB2_Tatooine features numerous small ship parts hidden through out the level. The "true" part is selected randomly. The Imperials must find the correct part, take it back to their ship at the Imperial spawn, and hold Use to repair their ship. The Rebellion can find the part first and try and keep it away from the Imperials. Rebellion wins when the 5 minute timer runs out. This is not really an escort objective.

MB2_Jabba features a large Jabba the Hutt NPC (Non-Playable Character), which must be taken to one of the numerous escape points by the Imperials. Each route has its own series of advantages and disadvantages, and it is up to the Imperial who Jabba is following to choose which route to use. The Imperials cause the Jabba NPC to follow them by pressing Use, and halt him with another press of the Use key. The Rebellion wins with the death of the Jabba NPC. Imperials win when the 5 minute timer runs out.
