| Mudkip (known as ミズゴロウ Mizugorou in Japan, Hydropi in Germany and Gobou in France) is a fictional creature from the Pokémon franchise. It is one of the three Hoenn starter Pokémon (the other two are Treecko and Torchic). Mudkip's name is derived from the words mud, being a surrounding of its natural habitat - the swamp, and skip, relating to the Mudskipper, the fish-like creature it resembles. BiologyMudkip is a quadrupedal mud fish whose fin on its head acts as highly sensitive radar. Using this fin to sense movement of water and air, this Pokémon can determine what is taking place around it without using its eyes. Mudkip can be rather powerful, considering its small size and weight; On land, it can lift large boulders by planting its four feet and heaving. In water, Mudkip breathes using the gills on its cheeks, and its large tail fin propells it through water with near-spontaneous acceleration. If it is faced with a tight situation in battle, this Pokémon will unleash powerful attacks that can crush rocks bigger than itself. It sleeps by burying itself in soil at the water's edge.In the video gamesPicking this Pokémon as a starter is categorized as choosing a "Medium" difficulty level for the game because the first gym leader uses Pokémon whose type is weak against Mudkip's and the later-in-the-game Granite Cave has some Pokémon who are also weak against Mudkip's powerful water blasts. However, it is important to note that the third gym leader uses Pokémon that could devastate even the best-trained Mudkip if it hasn't evolved into Marshtomp. Your rival is the bigger problem if you chose Mudkip. Mudkip and its evolutions are Water/Ground types, which have a double weakness to Grass types. A strong Fire type would greatly help in this situation. In the AnimeIn the pokémon anime, Brock (who travels with Ash Ketchum) has a Mudkip. Mudkip is one of the parental figure Pokémon on Brock's team, and, along with Ash's Pikachu, is one of the Pokémon leaders when the Pokémon are away from their trainers. In the card gameMudkip aims to be a rival to Squirtle and Totodile in the card game by being a widely used Basic Water-type. However, despite being a Water-Ground type in the video games, there have not been any Ground/Fighting-type Mudkip cards printed as of now:
