| In modern fantasy fiction, members of a race with both snake and human characteristics (usually having only a human head, cf. yuan-ti, or a human torso with a snake tail instead of legs) are often called nagas. This comes from the legendary creatures called nagas in Hindu mythology. In the game Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne, Nagas are Night Elves that were driven underwater and eventually mutated into snake-like creatures. They reside in their city Nazjatar. Naga also appear in Final Fantasy IX, Legend of the Five Rings, Dungeons and Dragons, and many other products. A game called Sansara Naga was made for the Game Boy Advance. Deis, also called Bleu, a character from the Breath of Fire series of video role-playing games, is a naga. In the Heroes of Might and Magic series, Nagas are creatures with the upper body of a woman, the lower body and tail of a serpent (in the style of a mermaid), and six arms, the multiple arms perhaps inspired by the stereotype of Hindu deities. In the anime Ronin Warriors, it is speculated that Naaza/Sekhmet, Warlord of Venom, may in fact be a part of a family of nagas. In Piers Anthony's Xanth series, a kingdom of nagas lives in caves and fights with goblins. Nagas in Dungeons & DragonsIn the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game, nagas are a variety of similar species with widely differing abilities and alignments. They are intelligent beings that resemble giant snakes, some with a humanoid head and some with a more snake-like head. The primary four races of nagas are the lawful evil dark nagas, lawful good guardian nagas, chaotic evil spirit nagas, and neutral water nagas. In addition, there is a unique type of undead naga called a bone naga. Each type of naga has a certain amount of spell casting power. Most nagas worship the naga creator goddess Shekinester and her son Parrafaire, except for dark nagas, who venerate Sess'innek. In the Forgotten Realms campaign setting, nagas were created by the reptilian creator race, the sarrukh, along with yuan-ti. Another race of nagas, the neutral good iridescent nagas, are unique to the Realms. [ Visit the complete Wikipedia entry for Naga (fantasy) ] | Searches on eBayRelated searches on eBay |
