Nefarian is a fictional character from the MMORPG World of Warcraft. He is the last boss in Blackwing Lair, a high-end instance in World of Warcraft. Until the release of Patch 1.9 on Jan. 3rd 2006, he was the most powerful boss in the game, though now his power is trumped by the Old God C'Thun. Nefarian is one of the most lethal challenges in the World of Warcraft, and requires a full raid of 40 players to defeat.Nefarian in the World of WarcraftNefarian is a black dragon, the son of Deathwing the Destroyer and the current lord of the Black Dragonflight. His sister is the black dragon Onyxia. Like his sister, Nefarian is capable of shape-shifting into different forms, and most frequently adopts the human guise of Lord Victor Nefarius. In this human form, Nefarian rules the dark fortress of Blackrock Spire, lording over the black dragons and the Blackrock Clan. Nefarian himself resides in the highest chamber of Blackrock Spire, which is called Blackwing Lair.Nefarian's first in-game kill came at the hands of the guild, Drama, of Shattered Hand, on 9/27/05. Nefarian is one of the most powerful forces of evil in the World of Warcraft. Currently, he's had his black dragons and the Blackrock Clan gathering dragon eggs from the other four Dragonflights. Experimenting on the captured hatchlings, Nefarian has created powerful living weapons, including the drakonids, a race of humanoid dragons, and the Chromatic Dragonflight, dragons who wield the powers of all five Dragonflights and have none of the weaknesses. It has been rumoured that Nefarian is merely repeating experiments conducted by his father thousands of years ago, and that the results have thus far been inferior to Deathwing's efforts. The goal of Nefarian's experiments are to create an army capable of destroying the Dark Iron Dwarves and their master, Ragnaros, who dwell deep within the caverns beneath Blackrock Spire. Once Nefarian's forces have destroyed the sinister dwarves and their elemental masters, Nefarian plans to turn his attentions to world domination. Nefarian's arch-rival is the red dragon Vaelastraz, who has infiltrated Blackrock Spire in an effort to destroy the hated enemy of the Red Dragonflight. The Black DragonflightIt was alluded in the past that Deathwing's Black Dragonflight was destroyed in ancient times, possibly during the War of the Ancients 10,000 years before the events in the first Warcraft games. Deathwing himself, in the Warcraft novel Day of the Dragon, confirmed that all of his females were killed, and made no mention of having any children. Though Deathwing was able to capture several eggs from the red dragonqueen Alexstraza, even the oldest hatchling would only be 15 years old by the time the events in World of Warcraft take place, and in any case would most likely be a red dragon. It seems unlikely that dragons as powerful as Nefarian and Onyxia were born from these eggs, so it can be assumed that the two siblings survived the disaster that destroyed the rest of the Dragonflight. Neither dragon makes any mention of Deathwing or his current whereabouts in World of Warcraft.StrategyTo activate the Encounter a person must walk up to Nefarian's throne and talk through what he says. Upon completion of this he says "Let the Games begin." From here, Nefarian is invulnerable, and walks amid the raid randomly shadow bolting, mind controling people and casting fear on random targets. The room begins to flood with Drakonids at the same time. There are 6 types of drakonids that spawn. In every Nefarian encounter you will fight Chromatic Drakonids; the largest and toughest drakonids. Fortunately they spawn in far fewer number than the other color. In addition to the Chromatic Drakonid, 2 other random colors of Drakonids will spawn as well. One color will spawn from the southern door, and one color will spawn from the northern door. Colors are fixed for each instance: if Nefarian is attempted multiple times between instance resets, same color combinations will appear. Different colors of Drakonids have different special abilities and are resistant to different schools of magic. Note that, unlike some other Blackwing Lair mobs, these Drakonids are not particularly vulnerable to any magic. Below is a list of their colors and associated abilities / resistances: - Chromatic Drakonids - these are resistant to all schools of magic, and are typically handled by one warrior each, and physical damage dealers. - Red Drakonids - Resistant to Fire spells, casts AoE fire spells. - Blue Drakonids - Resistant to Frost spells, frequently casts a mana draining spell. - Green Drakonids - Resistant to Nature spells, puts tank to sleep for 2-3 seconds.
