Nemesis is a fictional monster and recurring boss that appears in the eponymous survival horror game Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. He is arguably the most powerful bioweapon yet created by the fictional Umbrella Corporation.OriginNemesis is one of the deadliest bio organic weapons (B.O.W) created by Umbrella Corporation. His character model was based off a rejected design for Mr. X, a Tyrant featuring in Resident Evil 2. He is an 8 foot tall monster, wearing a black trenchcoat and boots. Other attributes include a deeply scarred, misshapen face, with tentacles hideously protruding from his upper-body. His right arm is smaller and less muscular compared to his left because of the numerous tentacles inside it.The Nemesis project was headed by the European Branch of Umbrella (France division) during the 1980's, independent of the Tyrant research at the Arklay facility. Inserting the Nemesis parasite inside a host had a lower success rate because there is only 1 in 60,000,000 people with a compatible DNA that will accept the parasite. Incompatible host die in a few minutes after the Nemesis parasite took control of its brain. In 1988, as an attempt to steal credit for the Nemesis project, Albert Wesker used his connections with Ozwell E. Spencer to acquire a specimen. He planned to use it on Lisa Trevor, a human guinea pig at the Arklay facility. She was subjected to every virus yet created by Umbrella including (but not limited to); T-Virus, Mother, and Progenitor Virus without dying. After being injected with the Nemesis parasite it traveled to her brain and disappeared (Wesker believed it destroyed, but in the remake of Resident Evil Lisa Trevor is depicted with Nemesis like tentacles). Afterwards a new virus was discovered in her system, which William Birkin would spend the next decade developing into the G-Virus. Early tests on the Nemesis Parasite resulted in the host dying a few minutes after implantation. This problem was solved by Umbrella France. During late 1997 and early 1998, Umbrella France produced 4 NE-A Parasites to be spliced with 4 T-103 mass production model Tyrants. The first experiment was a failure due to the fact that the parasite allowed the host to retain cognitive thinking and therefore caused it to attempt to escape the facility. This first Nemesis was destroyed. The second one had its intelligence restricted by giving inhibitors that would limit the growth of the brain cells of the Nemesis parasite. This Nemesis was sent to Raccoon City during an outbreak of the T-Virus where it was to be tested in the field, as well as assassinate any S.T.A.R.S. members who might try to release information of Umbrella's illegal activities to the media and/or the world's governments. How Umbrella managed to acquire a compatible host is unknown. The events of Resident Evil 3 take place over the course of three days, with Nemesis active throughout this time. It displayed greater intelligence than the Tyrants deployed by Umbrella to Raccoon City. The Nemesis has a limited speech capacity, as well as being able to competently use a rocket launcher. The fact that Tyrants continue to be the main B.O.W. used and developed by Umbrella since the incident at Raccoon suggests that the Nemesis project is still unpractical because it has few compatible hosts and is very difficult to produce. Two other Nemesis units remain unaccounted for. Role in Resident Evil 3It is not known how or when Nemesis was deployed to Raccoon City, the first mention of his presence comes on September 28th 1998 when terrified S.T.A.R.S. member; Brad Vickers states that he, and the rest of the S.T.A.R.S team will be hunted down by a new creature. Soon thereafter, the protagonist Jill Valentine, witnesses Nemesis killing Brad outside of Raccoon City's police station. From here on, Nemesis' role is that of an extremely tough and persistent boss.Nemesis' mission is quite simple. He was sent to search for, and destroy remaining S.T.A.R.S members within Raccoon City - thereby preventing information regarding illegal activities by Umbrella from reaching the press and the world's governments. He comes well equipped with heavy armor and a rocket launcher, though generally prefers brute force and later, use of his tentacles while attacking. Through the course of the game Nemesis managed to kill just one S.T.A.R.S member; the aforementioned Brad Vickers. Brad's corpse reanimates and he can be seen as an unusually strong zombie in Resident Evil 2, close to where Nemesis dispatched him. Throughout the game Nemesis pursues Jill Valentine through Raccoon City - with several showdowns occurring throughout the game. Nemesis at one point severely hinders Jill's escape by shooting down a rescue helicopter with his Rocket Launcher and shortly before infecting her with the T-Virus, leaving her temporarily incapacitated. Jill is later cured by a sophisticated medicine created by ally Carlos Oliveira. Eventually Nemesis, still relentlessly pursuing Jill, reaches an Umbrella facility known only as the "Dead Factory".
