Newman is a secondary character on the television show Seinfeld. He is played by Wayne Knight. Like fellow Seinfeld character Kramer, Newman is addressed by last name, a fact Newman revealed in episode 44, "The Ticket". Unlike Kramer, Newman's first name is never mentioned, even though in one of the episodes after Newman runs out of a house and is getting shot at, a woman shouts after him: "I'll never forget you Norman" which is probably a joke about her not knowing his name but one can never be sure. Newman is considered by some to be the villain in the series.HistoryNewman is a postal carrier of the U.S. Postal Service who lives in Jerry's apartment building. Because he is cunning and occasionally acts like a weasel, Jerry greets him with a sarcastic "Hello, Newman". Newman never goes to work when it is raining, claiming "I don't work in the rain", which has bad consequences for George in the episode "The Calzone".Despite this, he is friends with Cosmo Kramer, and at many times, both have participated in get-rich-quick schemes. Since he is weasel-like, he tends to perform some annoying pranks like attracting fleas to the apartment complex, and assist other people to get back at Jerry (such as Jerry's barber). Newman and Kramer also parody Cyrano de Bergerac when Newman voices poetry for Kramer in the latter's effort to woo a woman with whom he is enchanted, but who is also Jerry's girlfriend. Newman exploits the situation to inflict a wound on Jerry, but makes a deal not to help Kramer further in turn for Jerry's advice on wooing Elaine. Newman was initially introduced as Kramer's pathetic suicidal friend in the second season, but he was never featured on-screen. Instead, he was voiced by the show's co-creator, Larry David. Knight didn't start playing him until the character's first physical appearance in the third season. In syndicated reruns of the first season episode, Knight's voice is dubbed over David's lines. Newman is also revealed to be a fantastic tennis player who uses the same Bruline racket as Mr. Pitt. Appearances outside of SeinfeldThe character of Newman was used in Kurt Elfman's Paper Computer Game, "Malphoid: The Mailbox-bot". The game took place on a robotic planet, and the protagonist, Malphoid, was a postal worker who delivers the mail to various zones. Newman appears in this game as Malphoid's boss, the head of the postal organization on this world. It seems that Newman had finally moved up within the Postal service. When Malphoid reports in to his boss at the end of a mission, they greet each other using a variation on the 'Newman' dialogue from Seinfeld: "Hello, Malphoid." "Hello... Newman."[ Visit the complete Wikipedia entry for Newman (Seinfeld) ] | Searches on eBayRelated searches on eBay |
