| Ni-Fi is a term coined as a play off of the words Nintendo and Wi-Fi. It refers to the proprietary, non-routable network protocol used by Nintendo DS games that are not using Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. This name has caused some confusion, as it led people to believe that Nintendo's proprietary wireless protocol was at Layer 2 (data link) of the OSI model, when Ni-Fi in fact sits at Layer 3 (network).
