Openglad is a crossplatform port (using SDL) of the early 1990s-era DOS game Gladiator. Gladiator was originally created by Forgotten Sages Games as shareware, with a requisite registration fee that was required to get at the level editor, extra levels, and extra character classes. Sometime during 2002, it was open sourced by its creators, and took over development and ported it to Linux, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, BeOS, and Windows.

Gameplay

Openglad plays a lot like Gauntlet, but has a lot more character classes. Each class has, on average, three or four spells, and some have special abilities such as flight. The objective of each level is to kill all of the opponents, and once that is accomplished, the game returns to the menu where the player's team can train and level up with the cash that they earned before going on to the next level.

The levels themselves are 2D and the view is top-down. Openglad comes with a scenario editor, Openscen, which allows the creation of custom scenarios. Up to four players can play on one computer, and Player vs Player mode can be turned on if desired.

Characters

The following is a list of Openglad's character classes and their spells and abilities:

Soldier - Charge, Boomerang, Whirlwind, Disarm.
Elf - Rocks, Bouncy Rocks, Lots of Rocks, Mega Rocks. The elf can also walk through trees.
Archer - Fire Arrows, Barrage, Exploding Bolt.
Mage - Teleport, Teleport Marker, Warp Space, Freeze Time, Energy Wave, Heartburst.
Skeleton - Tunnel.
Cleric - Heal, Mystic Mace, Raise Undead, Raise Ghost, Turn Undead, Resurrect.
Fire Elemental - Starburst.
Faerie - A farie's shots freeze opponents. Faeries can also fly.
Slime - Small slime can grow into medium then big slime, and big slime can split into two small slimes.
Thief - Bomb, Cloak, Taunt Enemy, Poison Cloud.
Ghost - Scare. Ghosts are etherial and can pass through all terrain.
Druid - Grow Tree, Summon Faerie, Reveal, Protection.
Orc - Howl, Eat Corpse.
Orc Captain
Barbarian - Hurl Boulder, Exploding Boulder.
Archmage - Teleport, Teleport Marker, Heartburst, Chain Lightning, Summon Image, Summon Elemental, Mind Control.
