Patrician 3 is a trading game that takes place in the 14th-15th century in northern Europe when the Hanseatic League was at the height of its power. Patrician 3 looks like Patrician 2. That is because Patrician 3 was released in Germany as the expansion pack for Patrician 2, while in the rest of the world the game was released as the sequel of Patrician 2.

The game contains several campaigns, a free game mode for single- or multyplayer and a map editor. You play a trader in one of the cities with a small amount of cash and some ships. It's your goal to become rich and powerful by trading or by "causing problems" for your competitors, like giving ships to pirates, hiring burglars or playing pirates yourself, with the risk getting caught and fined.

Of course there are several problems on your way to the top, like the plague, famine, armies besieging cities and pirates attacking ships.
