Planet of the Imps was a sprite comic by Zack Friedrich, based on material from the original Doom series. The title is an obvious parody of Planet of the Apes. Most of the characters are sprites from the Doom games, though some are not. As of now, it has 218 episodes and the author has stated that it would likely end after 240 or 250 episodes, but there have been no updates in the last three years.

Main characters

Imp

Imp, as his name implies, is an Imp from the original Doom series. He is the first character introduced in the story. He sometimes points out the stupidity of Doom Guy and becomes the victim of him often. He is also known to have a violent temper when Doom Guy's stupidity gets to him. Imp has a friend who, also an Imp, who goes by the name Gimp.

Doom Guy

Doom Guy stands out among the main characters. He is the Marine from the original Doom series and is immensely stupid due to the effects of teleportation. He is one of the few human characters in the story and is rarely seen without his gun. He is friends with Imp, though Imp has an intense hatred for him at times.

Gimp

Gimp is an Imp that wears a lime-green shirt and a red hat. He is often as stupid as Doom Guy, sometimes even more so, and Imp gets mad at him a lot as a result. He likes watching the TV show "Doom Heads". He procured his hat and shirt from a corpse he found. He supposedly smells very bad, due to where he got his clothes from, but no character has ever mentioned this.

Barry

Barry is a Baron of Hell who seems to have more common sense than the previously stated characters. This may come from the fact that he took schooling from a smart Cyberdemon. Barry was raised by a pack of geese who found him in a China town alley, but he learned to speak English from watching South Park and than ate the geese who cared for him. He has stated his favorite food is hog skins.

Bubba

Bubba is a Cacodemon. Like Barry, he has more sense than Imp, Doom Guy and Gimp. He is the last of the main characters to join the fold. Doom Guy, Imp and Gimp attempted to eat him at first, but argued over who would kill him. Bubba saved himself by simply stating, "Can we all just get along?", after which the other three gladly accepted him as a new friend. Bubba has also used the Cacodemon plasma ball a number of times against other characters.

There are numerous other characters as well, such as zombies, Mancubi, and Cyberdemons also being major targets for running gags.
