| The Red Balloon is a hot air balloon featured in the Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends TV Series. It was brought to the Island of Sodor to take visitors and holidaymakers around Sodor. At first Thomas the Tank Engine and James the Red Engine were jealous and sad because they thought the balloon would take over their work, but after an incident when the balloon ran out of hot air and landed on James, they figured out they were busier because the balloon was there. Later, the Fat Controller and Lady Hatt had to use it to get to the Grand Opening of the Narrow-gauge railway, but it landed in a tree. Luckily, Skarloey rescued them and the balloon was brought down. The hot air balloon now carries people around Sodor, and the engines know it is really useful.
