Story

He was a top member of the original Mad Gear gang. A Red Beret in the United States Army, Rolento went insane and joined Mad Gear. Mad Gear's beliefs fit Rolento's desire for a utopian nation based on martial law. He considers another Mad Gear member, Sodom
, a blood brother. Like Edi. E, Rolento has many lethal weapons to use. Along with his main weapon, his baton, Rolento has an endless supply of hand grenades and throwing knives at his disposal. Eventually, he would add tanks and his own personal helicopter to his arsenal.

In the original Final Fight, Rolento controlled the Mad Gear gang from Metro City's Industrial Area, which was actually a drug-manufacturing plant. Guy
, along with Cody
and Haggar
, searched in the Industrial Area and ran into Rolento. Rolento, who thought Guy was a perfect candidate for Mad Gear, asked him to join. Guy refused, stating that Mad Gear was evil. The trio battled Rolento and emerged victorious against him.

Final Fight Revenge has Rolento starting his own militant faction with Mad Gear in poor shape. Two other former Mad Gear members, El Gado and Holly Wood, joined him. Though El Gado was going to initially kill Rolento for murdering his family, all Rolento had to do was tell El Gado that he could make him a very powerful man and El Gado let him live. After that bit of business was resolved, Rolento and his militants overran Metro City with tanks. Still seeking his utopian nation, Rolento's attack did not last very long as Mayor Haggar quenched it thoroughly. These events were also seen in Street Fighter Alpha 2, which also showed him beating Sodom up in a match over their argument that Rolento had lost Mad Gear's ideals, while Rolento argued that he still held them.

Though Rolento did not think Mad Gear could help him achieve his dream anymore, in Final Fight 2, he stayed with the new one led by Retu, which had him train the new members in survival tactics at Mad Gear's new base in Italy. Rolento, however, was defeated again by Haggar along with new two allies, Maki
and Carlos
. Since that moment, Mad Gear collapsed for good and he went back to his own militia.

In Street Fighter Alpha 3, Rolento, remembering Cody as a powerful fighter from the past, searched for him to try to recruit him into his army. When he eventually found Cody in a prison uniform and handcuffs, Rolento became disheartened. He wanted the hero from back in the day, not a loner convict, even though Cody had refused to join anyway. He also sees Sodom and defeated him once more, who then claims the military man had indeed lost sight of what Mad Gear stood for. Eventually, he stumbles upon M. Bison
's Psycho Drive after stealing weapons from Shadoloo
for his army. He learns the Psycho Drive brainwashes people, and decides against using it. He can't have a utopia if people can't make their own decisions. Sodom, who had tracked Rolento down despite their earlier arguments, hears him proclaim this and realizes that Rolento did not lose sight of Mad Gear's ideals after all. They make up and decide to work together to use those values to make a great utopian nation.

Trivia

  • Rolento was officially born in the United States. Previous official statements also have him born in Italy and East Germany as well.
  • The whole Industrial Area stage (including Rolento) was cut from the SNES
version of the original Final Fight due to lack of space. The SNES sequel, Final Fight 2, included him as a boss to make up for the previous omission. Cody
in Final Fight One makes a humorous reference to the omission of the stage by saying "I remember, the last time I did this, I skipped over this place!"
  • It is quite likely that Rolento was inspired by a character called The Colonel from Fist of the North Star.
  • In the Street Fighter EX series, it is Rolento and his unit that injured Doctrine Dark and massacred Dark's tactical unit.
  • It is a possibility that his name is actually Laurent, and that "Rolento" was created in translation, as the "l" and "r" sounds may have been unintentionally reversed due to the way these letters sound in Japanese. This may also be why his name is spelled "Rolent" in Final Fight 2.
  • Krauser
from Resident Evil 4 looks like Rolento.
