Games - RuneScape mini-games

RuneScape has a number of mini-games. Mini-games are made to be fun activities, within the game of RuneScape, that take place in a certain area, and normally revolve a certain skill, such as fishing, agility or combat.

RuneScape's mini-games include, in alphabetical order:

Barrows

Barrows is a rewarding, yet very dangerous mini-game in RuneScape. Players are advised to gain both 43 prayer and 59 hitpoints before attempting it. Players fight 5 legendary brothers in their crypts in Morytania, then enter into the underground tunnels where a 6th brother must be found. Once players have killed him they must proceed to a locked door and solve a puzzle to pass to where there is a treasure chest that can contain a range of items - varying from common runes to valuable Barrows armour and weapons.

Taking magic items into the barrows is a good idea. Using magic spells against 5 of the brothers (not Ahrim) is extremely effective, the slayer dart is preferred for this as the runes used for the spell (Mind and Death) are common rewards from the Barrows.

Castle Wars

Castle Wars, involves two teams in a capture the flag-type game. The aim of the game is to take the enemy's flag from their castle and return it to the standard in your own castle, gaining 1 point each time. You must prevent the opposing team from taking your flag by blocking them from your castle, or by killing them. Slain players will respawn within the game, so both sides are constantly fighting with a near (if not totally) equal numbered team. Each game lasts for 20 minutes, and the team with the most points at the end of the game is the winner. Players receive 2 Castle Wars tickets for a win, and 1 in the event of a draw. Castle Wars tickets are redeemable for a number of decorative armours and other rewards.

Barcrawl

Completion of the Barcrawl is required to enter the Barbarian Outpost agility course. To complete the Barcrawl, players must visit 10 bars, and purchase a specific drink and get their card signed at every bar. To buy a drink, players talk to the bartender, and tell him that about the "Alfred Grimhand Barcrawl". The only exception to this is at Blurberry's Bar in the Grand Tree where a player must 'use' the Barcrawl card with Blurberry. Once they have purchased the correct drink, players must drink it. On completion of the Barcrawl, players can enter to the Barbarian Outpost.

Champions' Challenge

In the basement of the Champions' Guild players can see a fight arena. In this arena players may fight a number of "champions" by bringing a challenge scroll to the guild basement. To obtain a scroll, players must fight enough of the creatures which they represent (e.g. fighting a lot of Earth Warriors will eventually cause a challenge by an Earth Warrior Champion). Champions range from level 14 to level 162, although not all champions are currently known about. Players get both slayer and hitpoints experience up on defeating a champion, the amount of which depends on the champion's combat level.

Mage Arena

Kolodion, RuneScape's master of battle magic, has set up an arena deep in the wilderness. Players must prove themselves worthy by surviving the trials of the Mage Arena - resulting in players learning new, more powerful spells. The Mage Arena is a members only feature located in the deep lvl 55 wilderness. Players must battle several monsters to learn these new spells, and then choose a god
to fight for. Once players pray at the statue of their choice, they will receive a god staff matching their selected RuneScape god.

Trawler Fishing

Fishing Trawler involves players helping an NPC, Murphy, to catch fish in his boat that is somewhat in bad condition. Players, who require level 15 fishing, must keep the boat intact by fixing the net if it breaks, fixing holes in the boat and get water out of the boat.

Tai Bwo Wannai Cleanup

After completing the "Jungle Potion" quest players can talk to an NPC, Murcailey to start the Tai Bwo Wannai cleanup. The village is a mess after having been abandoned for a while. Players with a high woodcutting and combat level will be able to help more than players that do not have both of these. The object is to cut down jungle patches with a machete and then use the resulting sticks to repair the village fence. As players cut, they may be attacked by various enemies that often use poison, find a gem rock in the jungle that can be mined with a pickaxe, or locate a goutweed tuber than can be dug up with a spade. As players repair the fence and defeat village enemies they gain favour points with the locals, by talking to the local NPCs these favour points can be exchanged for trading sticks, the local currency. The more favour, the more trading sticks each villager gives. Trading sticks can be used at the village shop to buy gnome cocktails, villager clothing, opal, jade, topaz, goutweed tuber and three new machetes that cut jungle faster than ordinary ones. Players may also exchange 100 sticks with Murcaily to enter his special woodcutting area; this is currently the only place in Runescape where mahogany and teak trees can be found. There is no current use for these trees besides woodcutting and firemaking experience but Jagex has hinted that they will have uses in the future.
