Sara Trantoul is the one who is betrothed to Leon Belmont, the primary character of Castlevania: Lament of Innocence.Lament of InnocenceSara plays a critical role in the plot of Lament of Innocence, and in the entire Castlevania series. At the start of the game, she was kidnapped by Walter Bernhard, the vampiric master of the Forest of Eternal Night. This causes Leon to forfeit his titles in order to pursue and save Sara. Eventually, Leon confronts Walter, who willingly relinquishes Sara to Leon. In an act of fury, Leon attacked Walter, who was not affected by his assaults. Laughing, Walter called to Leon to challenge him in the full light of the newborn moon at the top of the castle. When Leon took Sara back to Rinaldo Gandolfi, the alchemist who dwelled within the forest, he found that Sara had been turned into a vampire by Walter.Vampire KillerRinaldo theorized that in order to destroy Walter, Leon could slay a vampire and infuse his whip with extraordinary powers. However, to accomplish this they needed a vampire, and in this case, it was Sara. Eavesdropping on their conversation, Sara agreed to become the sacrifice, as she would rather aid Leon in destroying Walter rather than live a cursed existence as a vampire. In an act of extreme sadness, Leon slew his beloved and created a powerful artifact: the whip known as Vampire Killer, able to destroy all things associated with the Night. Using this whip, Leon gained access to the higher echelons of the castle and confronted Walter. With the whip, he successfuly destroyed Walter, whose soul was claimed by Death and transferred to the wielder of the Crimson Stone: Mathias Cronqvist. After Leon's refusal to join Mathias in his darkness, he sent Death to destroy Leon. However, even though Death was a divine being, the powers of the Vampire Killer whip allowed Leon to defeat Death and banish him, although he would return along with his master. Leon promised the Belmont clan would hunt the Night, and the Vampire Killer whip would be passed down through generations of Belmonts, in which they would use the whip to destroy Dracula time and time again. The current wielder of the whip is Julius Belmont, who was responsible for finally defeating Dracula in the events preceding Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow. He then proceeded to seal the whip in the castle in order to reduce the dark power in the castle. After regaining his memory during the events of Aria, Julius reclaimed the whip and battled Soma Cruz, whom he believed to be the reincarnation of Dracula. He lost the fight, only because he held back his power since he sensed the good within Soma's soul. Soma, however, made him promise to destroy him if he failed in sealing his darker nature. In Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow, Julius wields a whip in Julius Mode, which is largely assumed to be the Vampire Killer along with his variety of subweapons.
