Games - Seymour Guado

Seymour Guado (formal titles Maester Seymour Guado or Lord Seymour) is a fictional character and villain of the video game Final Fantasy X of the Final Fantasy
series.

Seymour is the leader of the Guado, a race of humanoids in the world of Spira
. He is also a Maester of Yevon. He inherited both positions after the death of his father, Lord Jyscal Guado. Seymour is also one of the memory-created optional bosses that one can fight in a special arena in Final Fantasy X-2 International Version. Also, Yuna obtains the sphere that recorded Seymour's meeting with Baralai.

Biography

Early years

Seymour is actually half Guado and half human, since his father married a human to further Guado relations to Yevonites. But many saw the boy as an abomination and a monster, so Jyscal had his son and wife sent to Baaj for their protection. Afterwards, his mother, in order to ensure her son would be 'strong' against the prejudice of being a half-breed, gave her life to become a fayth for the Aeon Anima. Seymour refused the aeon and returned to Baaj island, where he dwelled alone for years. Eventually, Seymour's mind snapped. He soon wanted all the power he could have and began to believe that death is the only way the hatred and suffering like he felt from his childhood can truly ever end. But to achieve his aims, he had to have something much stronger than Anima. As a result, he found Sin as Spira's only hope. Shortly before and during the events of Final Fantasy X, Seymour set a plan in motion to ascend the hierarchy of Yevon, the goal of which would ultimately lead him to become the new Sin, and 'free' Spira's people by killing them all and saving them from the pain of life.

When Seymour turned 18, during or before High Summoner Braska's Calm, he was summoned back to Guadosalam where he was then ordained the high-priest of Macalania Temple. When he turned 26 years of age, he returned to Baaj to claim Anima as his aeon, then had the fayth statue sealed on Baaj and destroyed the island to prevent anyone else from obtaining the aeon.

Final Fantasy X

Two years later, as Tidus
entered Spira, Seymour murdered his own father Jyscal, ascending to the position of leader of the Guado and Maester of Yevon. In Luca, his eyes fell on Yuna, daughter of High Summoner Braska, and he was obviously quite interested in her. During the tournament, he orchestrated an attack of fiends, which were summoned by Guado warriors. He used the attack to show his power as a summoner using Anima, in order to gain the trust of the people. At the Mi'ihen Highroad, Seymour was, as a man of Spira, supporting Operation Mi'ihen, an offensive against Sin using Al Bhed weaponry and captured Sinspawn Gui. The operation failed, and many died at the hands of Sin. In Japanese, he referred to Yuna as "Yuna-domo", which was an old-fashioned way of referring to one you were courting... he goes to comfort Yuna after the attack and encourages her to be strong.

After the battle, he returned to Guadosalam, the Guado capital, in anticipation of Yuna and her guardians. But he was visited by Baralai instead, who sought Seymour's aid after the Crimson Squad incident that went in hand with Operation Mi'ihen. Seymour agreed to help, telling Baralai to go into hiding in Guadosalam until it's safe for him to show his face. Once Yuna and her guardians finally arrived, Seymour used a sphere containing memories of Zanarkand collected from the Farplane to woo Yuna. He then asked Yuna to marry him, in order to further unite Spira (since both had mixed parentage; Yuna is Human: Yevonite and Al Bhed). After Yuna's visit to the Farplane to seek guidance from her dead father concerning Seymour's marriage proposal, the party is shocked by Jyscal who follows them out of the farplane. Yuna sends him and retrieves a sphere that fell from Jyscal's unsent form. When she goes to confront Seymour, he has already left for Macalania temple.

At Macalania, where he expected Yuna to accept his proposal of marriage, Seymour was surprised to find that she had come to stop him. Yuna had received a sphere from the Unsent Jyscal detailing Seymour's treachery. Yuna, along with her guardians, killed Seymour. But, alas, Yuna was prevented from sending Seymour by his Guado retainer Tromell.

When Yuna was kidnapped on Bikanel Island by the Al Bhed (for "safekeeping", since they did not want summoners risking their lives to defeat Sin), the Guado attacked "Home", the Al Bhed's main city, and kidnapped Yuna to take her to Bevelle. This attack was ordered by Yevon, under authority of Seymour, now an Unsent
.
