Shadow the Hedgehog is a character in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. He is an anti-hero and Sonic the Hedgehog's doppelgänger. He first appeared in the Dreamcast game Sonic Adventure 2. He has also appeared in some of the Sonic Archie Comics. Shadow is 3'3" tall, and weighs 77 lbs, exactly the same as Sonic. Shadow is frequently mistaken for Sonic, and appears to be in his mid-to-late teens. However, he is technically immortal and was actually created 50 years ago aboard the Space Colony ARK.PersonalityAs an anti-hero, Shadow is a lone wolf who distances himself from most of the Sonic cast. He keeps conversation to a minimum, but never bluffs. If he makes a threat, he has every intention of carrying it out. While he isn't hot-tempered like Knuckles the Echidna, his solution to every problem is to fight it head on, unhesitantly destroying anybody who gets in his way - even former allies.Shadow is constantly haunted by flashbacks and memories of his beloved Maria Robotnik. He is rather arrogant, constantly referring to himself as the 'Ultimate Lifeform', despite the debates among fans and Sonic's disagreement, and he is a rather unpleasant person to be around, pessimistic, depressed, and perhaps even a little insecure. Nobody knows where Shadow lives inbetween games, or even if he has a permanent place of residence at all. Exactly how he will spend his free time now is uncertain, especially since he no longer feels the need to persue his past, and it's quite possible that we'll never find out too much about his private life. In Sonic Adventure 2, Shadow was fueled by a desire for revenge on the humans who caused the death of Maria, and in Shadow the Hedgehog, a desire to uncover the truth of his past. After Shadow the Hedgehog (video game) Shadow decided to leave his past behind and move on. His attitude in Sonic Riders appears slightly calmer, but underneath he's probably still the same arrogant, neutral wild-card he always has been. RelationshipsShadow doesn't seem to be the type to make friends easily, but he has made some associations with other characters.Shadow's approach to Doctor Eggman is different to that of most Sonic characters. He can fight him or leave him, and doesn't seem to care whether Eggman's plans succeed or not; as long as they don't bother him. The best proof of this may be his lack of involvement in Sonic Advance 1, 2 and 3, Sonic Rush and the actual storyline of Sonic Riders, in which Eggman's activies are less world-destroying. Shadow's greatest rival may be Sonic the Hedgehog, whom he finds arrogant, foolhardy and irritating. On the other hand, Sonic seems to find him arrogant, violent and humourless, as to make it balances out. Shadow has no secret of his disdain for Sonic, and they fight almost every time they meet, in a perpetual bid to determine who really is the Ultimate Lifeform. On certain occasions they have to work together to save the world, but only after making sure that the threat is too great for even Super Sonic or Super Shadow to handle alone. Shadow seems to have some sort of genuine alliance with Rouge the Bat. He saved her life in Sonic Adventure 2, specifically when she was trapped in Security Hall. However, he was also saving the Chaos Emeralds, and Rouge was still useful to him as a treasure hunter at the time. It's uncertain that he would have rescued Rouge without those incentives. Either way, Rouge released him from his stasis pod at the beginning of Sonic Heroes, although seemingly out of curiosity, and rescued him from Gimmie Shelter in Sonic Battle. It is also possible that Shadow also has some sort of emotional connection to Amy Rose after meeting her in the ARK close to the end of SA2, where she reminded him of his promise to the long-dead Maria. In Shadow the Hedgehog, when Super Shadow destroys the Black Comet. Amy cheerfully says "I'm sure he'll be okay Rouge,After all , he is Shadow." This could suggest a hint of interest in Shadow, but can also be passed off as a friendly compliment. It could also be a reference to some of the situations Shadow has survived (like after fighting The Final Hazard). However, Amy and Shadow rarely meet, and Amy remains obsessed with Sonic, which causes any romantic relationship between them to be almost pure fanon.
