Games - Sie Kensou

Sie Kensou is a character appearing in the SNK video game Psycho Soldier and the King of Fighters video game series. He has appeared in every KOF game except KOF 2003.

History

Sie Kensou is a young martial artist with psychic powers. As Athena Asamiya's best friend, he has been a member of the Psycho Soldiers team each time it entered the KOF tournament, even in KOF '99 and KOF 2000 when he had lost his psychic powers and thus wasn't 'psycho'. The only KOF tournament in which the Psycho Soldiers team did not participate was KOF 2003. Though mentally and physically talented, Kensou doesn't realize his potential, preferring to spend his time on socializing, eating, and reading manga instead of psychic and martial arts training.

Kensou was orphaned and left to fend for himself when he was just a child. He wandered through China for years before he met the legendary and venerable kung fu master Chin Gentsai
, who accepted Kensou as a pupil. The two eventually became grandfather and grandson in all but name and blood. Under Chin's tutelage, Kensou also began to manifest his psychic powers.

Chin and Kensou traveled and trained throughout Asia, constantly relocating after Chin's drunken rampages provoked the ire of locals. While in Japan, Kensou and Chin were challenged to a fight by a strongman but never lifted a finger; Athena Asamiya (teen pop star, crime fighter, and perhaps the world's most gifted psychic) saw what was happening and knocked out the rude provocateur with one of her 'psycho balls'. Kensou inmediately fell in love with the girl, and though Athena has never let their relationship go beyond friendship, they have been partners in crimefighting ever since along with their sensei, Chin.

In KOF '94 through KOF '98, though he built his own little fan base, Kensou received little media and fan adulation when compared with KOF's big stars, like Kyo Kusanagi
, the Bogard Brothers
, and his teammate Athena. Instead, he became widely known for his notorious wardrobe malfunctions long before Janet Jackson's famous incident. They also met their biggest fan, aoru, a paraplegic girl inspired to learn to walk despite all odds after watching her favorite rag-tag team overcome tremendous challenges in several matches. She has since become a sort of roadie for the team.

Between KOF '98 and KOF '99, while traveling in China, the Psycho Soldiers stumbled upon Bao
, who was, as had been Kensou, a young and abandoned orphan with psychic powers. They took him in, and he and Kensou quickly became like brothers. About this time, Kensou's psychic powers also mysteriously began to weaken.

Kensou entered the KOF '99 tournament, though it became apparent to all the competitors that he had lost his psychic combat powers and was steadily losing the rest of his psychic powers. Determined to be as effective as he was in prior tournaments, he for once had trained hard in the off season to expand his martial arts repetoire. In the end, while escaping from the NESTS base after K'
had defeated Krizalid
, the Psycho Soldiers team became split up once the compound began to collapse. A falling section of ceiling trapped Athena's leg, and just as a second section threatened to crush her completely, Kensou managed one last enormous burst of telekinesis to deflect the ceiling, free Athena, and bring them both to safety. Kensou, totally exhausted from the effort, passed out. Mysteriously, Bao also passed out at the same moment, though he had escaped the compound largely unscathed.

In KOF 2000, the Psycho Soldiers again failed to make the finals, though they remained in Southtown while K'
faced off against Zero, a renegade NESTS agent. In the aftermath, Kula Diamond
attempted to destroy the NESTS orbital laser cannon and instead unleashed a barrage upon Southtown, which was largely turned to rubble. Bao
impulsively jumped in the path of one blast, and though his psychic power deflected the blast straight back into the cannon, which helped Kula to finally destroy it, the effort brought him to the edge of death. He pleaded with the distraught Kensou to help him. Unsure of what he could do to help, Kensou attempted rescue breathing to sustain his dying friend. Not only did this save Bao, but it also somehow set off a reaction unleashing "the Power of the Dragon" in Kensou.
