The Sim RPG Maker is a tactical RPG Maker. The name was incorrectly chosen/translated by the translator.

It can be used to make tactical RPGs (e.g. Final Fantasy Tactics, Fire Emblem, Ogre Battle, etc.)

The program isn't advanced and the user interface is difficult to use. It comes with an RTP (Run Time Program) with built in graphics for animations. Adding custom graphics can be done, but it is more tedious than with the regular RPG Maker series of programs. The process is frustrating because names of the custom files added must correspond to set names for specific graphics. One advantage Sim RPG Maker has over others in the series is that it does not require the installation of the RTP to run a game created by the program. Only the installation of the game is necessary. However, since the graphics must be in .bmp format as opposed to .png or .xyz, the file size for each individual game will be larger than expected.

A game typically involves several maps, each with a starting event or cutscene, the main battle, and an ending cutscene. Inbetween maps, players can be sent to the camp, where they may purchase items, switch out party members, change equipment, or check stats of characters.

Maps can be set up to be completed by setting different objectives. The most common one is defeating all enemies. In addition, players may have to survive a set number of rounds or move past a specified location.

Maps are progressed through linearly.
