Sindel (also called Queen Sindel by her regal name), is a character in the Mortal Kombat fighting game series.About SindelSindel is an exceptional character in the Mortal Kombat series (and in fighting games in general) in more than one way. She is a distinctly older and mature character, with flowing grey hair and a regal attitude befitting of her role as Queen of Edenia. Another factor that contributes to her uniqueness is the fact that at one point in the series, she was actually undead. In spite of her gloomy, gothic appearance, Sindel is benevolent in nature. She rules the realm of Edenia alongside her daughter, Princess Kitana. Sindel's power appears to be more one of an inner, ethereal nature, however, and she has a natural affinity with aerial magic, as evidenced by her ability to levitate and manipulate sonic waves.StorylineSindel's story began when Shao Kahn invaded Edenia from the wasteland world Outworld, after his warriors had won ten Mortal Kombat tournaments in a row. During this war and the subsequent merger of both realms, Shao Kahn personally executed many Edenian nobles, including King Jerrod, Sindel's husband, and Rain's father, a general in Jerrod's army. In order to legitimise his rule among the Edenians who had not perished in the terrible conflict, Kahn took Sindel as his wife, and adopted princess Kitana as his daughter.Sindel was driven to insanity with grief for her dead husband, and her state of near-slavery, as she had been forced into in a new marriage with Shao Kahn. As such, she committed suicide, and her soul descended into the Netherealm as a result. Shao Kahn was not overcome with mourning; Instead, he devised a means to use Sindel to his advantage, even after her death. Growing frustrated at his failed attempts to take Earthrealm through Mortal Kombat, he ordered his elite order of Shadow Priests, lead by Shang Tsung, to make it so that Sindel would someday be reborn on Earth. When that occurred, Kahn would be able to temporarily step through the portal to Earth to reclaim Sindel, since as his queen, she technically belonged in the merged Outworld-Edenia. Through an intricate deal that also involved Shinnok and Quan Chi, it was further arranged that when reborn, Sindel would have no memory of her past, and that her soul would be tainted with evil. Years later, Sindel was reborn on Earth shortly before Mortal Kombat 3 took place. As planned, Shao Kahn and his army marched through the dimensional gates that linked his world to Earth, and reclaimed her. In the process, he initiated the merger process to conquer Earth, and stripped it of every human soul, a technique he had perfected over the millennia of his vile rule. But the key to his conquest would also prove to be one of the elements that led to his undoing. Kitana had allied with Earthrealm's warriors, and managed to confront her mother. With her daughter's help, Sindel was able to regain her memories, and turned on the emperor. When Kahn was at last defeated, Sindel, Kitana and other Edenian rebels such as Jade, presumably seized this opportunity to tear Edenia loose from Outworld. The revitalised realm proved to be unstable, however. In spite of fostering diplomatic ties with Earth and trying war criminals such as Reptile, an act of treason from Tanya, enabled the newly freed fallen Elder God Shinnok to quickly overrun the realm, and hold the queen hostage. Before Shinnok's dark presence could spread, however, he was defeated by Liu Kang. Edenia went on to enjoy a few years of peace, engaging in diplomatic ties with the Shokan people from Outworld, who had long grown disgruntled with Shao Kahn. The Deadly Alliance seized power on Outworld just as an Edenian army, led by Kitana and Prince Goro, had scored a few major victories against Outworld's armies. Although initially this chaos at the top of Outworld's establishment seemed to bode well for Edenia, things ultimately went awry when the Deadly Alliance was victorious and both Kitana and Goro had been killed. To make matters worse, Onaga reclaimed Outworld's throne and had further weakened Edenia's forces by having Mileena pose as Kitana, while the seemingly inept Bo' Rai Cho held command over the remaining troops of Edenia. With his Tarkatan warriors, Onaga then invaded Edenia and captured Sindel. [ Visit the complete Wikipedia entry for Sindel ] | Searches on eBay |
