| Microsoft has described its Smart Personal Object Technology (SPOT) initiative as being "aimed at improving the function of everyday objects through the injection of software". It´s an initiative to introduce software and hardware that will make everyday devices smarter (smart devices) and more useful for consumers. The MSN® Direct service is delivered across the United States and Canada over a network that is based on FM radio broadcast signals in about 100 metropolitan areas. Smart wristwatches are the first SPOT-based application. MSN Direct Watches are made by various watch makers. Soon alarm clocks and weather stations will be using SPOT. Jan. 4, 2006 Oregon Scientific unveiled the Complete Regional Weather Station with MSN® Direct. A person who buys and wears a MSNDirect watch has accessorized him/herself with a SPOT watch is referred to by some as "He/She has been SPOTerized".
