Tom Tipper, the postman, owns a red mail van featured in the Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends TV Series. He uses it to deliver parcels and letters all over the Island of Sodor. He thinks it very reliable, but once it was taken away from him because Tom's owner thought it was too expensive to run. After an incident with Percy the Small Engine and a bicycle, Tom Tipper got his van back. Although not his original, it was a "smart new van" that had the same shape as his original. They are now more useful, and he considers them a great team.

The Mail Van has only featured in two stories, but has made many cameos throughout the seasons. It is based on a 1940's Morris/Bedford van used for mail collection in Britain throughout the 1940's and 50's.
