Songhua Stalemate is one of the standard maps in the computer game Battlefield 2.

The map is set in a fictional war between the United States and China, where the location is loosely based on the Songhua River, China. The physical terrain of the map is jungle, with deep and shallow water, low-lying land and steep hills at the east and west ends. The air contains a thick fog which reduces visibility past short distances.

Songhua Stalemate includes most available Battlefield 2 vehicles, with the notable exception of airplanes and attack helicopters. Mobile anti-aircraft vehicles are also not available.

History

Newly formed Active Component brigades of the United States Marines advance from the Russian plains into the territories of the People’s Republic of China where rapidly deployed Chinese forces mass to counter the assault. The stalemated situation along the Songhua River has deteriorated into reciprocal assaults by both sides, each seeking to capture this vital transportation artery. Stakes are high in this double assault that involves control of a main gateway to Southern Manchuria.

Flags

The focus of Battlefield 2 gameplay is on the attack and defense of the flags in each map. The flags and vehicles that are present on Songhua Stalemate depend on the size of the game being played. The following list refers to the 64-player version of the map.

Chinese HQ

Vehicles: Transport helicopter, two jeeps, one APC, one tank.

The Chinese HQ flag is located on the western side of the map, at high elevation. The flag itself is adjacent to a road with various nearby buildings. The route to the flag is by a small number of steep, winding roads, starting from the Central Front flag. The Chinese commander assets are located at this Western flag.

Central Front

Vehicles: Transport helicopter, three jeeps, two APC's, two boats.

The Central Front flag is located at the western bank of the water, with a steep hill to the west, and huts and sandbag walls to the east. The flag can be directly reached by road from Chinese HQ, South Front and North Island.

South Front

Vehicles: Three jeeps, one APC, one boat.

The South Front flag is located at the south-western corner of the map, with surrounding elevation to the south and east. The flag is located in the middle of a loose ring of buildings. The South Front can be directly reached by road from Central Front, North Island and South Island.

North Island

The North Island flag is located just north of the middle of the map with slight elevation on surrounding sides. The flag itself is located within a ring of small sandbags, with a couple of buildings nearby, enclosed by a wall. The flag is neutral when a new game is started on the map. The North Island is directly reached by road from all of the other flags on the map.

South Island

The South Island flag is located just south of the middle of the map with medium elevation on the south side. The flag itself is located on its own with a few buildings nearby. The flag is neutral when a new game is started on the map. The South Island is directly reached by road from all of the other flags on the map, except the North Perimeter.

West Perimeter

Vehicles: Transport helicopter, one jeep, two APC's, one boat.

The West Perimeter flag is located at the eastern bank of the water, with a steep hill to the east. The flag itself is located at the front of a building, which has a walled perimeter. The West Perimeter can be directly reached by road from North Island, South Island, North Perimeter and Fish Factory.

North Perimeter

Vehicles: Three jeeps, one APC, one boat.

The North Perimeter flag is located at the far north-eastern corner of the map, with low elevation on all sides. The flag itself is located in the middle of a shrine structure, which is surrounded by a walled perimeter. The North Perimeter can be directly reached by road from West Perimeter, Fish Factory, North Island, and also Central Front by a long route across the north of the map.

Fish Factory

Vehicles: Transport helicopter, two jeeps, one APC, one tank.

The Fish Factory flag is located at the eastern side of the map, at high elevation. The flag itself is alongside the eastern side of a very large building. The commander assets for the United States team are located at this flag. The Fish Factory can be directly reached by road from South Island, West Perimeter and North Perimeter.
