| Sophia Hapgood is a fictional character in the game Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis. She was a rich girl that rebelled against her family. She had a simple affair with Indiana Jones and followed him in the Jastro Expedition in Iceland. However she later began selling his artifacts. A strange medallion of the Atlantean king Nur-Ab-Sal fell in her possession which somehow controlled her will. She became a psychic interested in Atlantis and made seminars about this subject. In the game she helped Indy find Atlantis, racing against the Nazis who also were after its secrets. The relation of the pair is intense, often scolding one another or boasting for achieving things better than the other. Indiana also is always skeptical about her powers, and it is revealed that some were just tricks. However cooperation among them is critical for the solution of some riddles. For example some people will talk only with Sophia instead of Indy and during these times, Indy might make use of the situation while others are busy talking with her. Sophia often provides Indy/the player with hints whenever he talks with her. In some very few circumstances, the player has control of Sophia. Sophia accompanies Indy in most of his travel, if the player chooses the Team Path. In the process it is revealed that the medallion somehow guided her in order for it to reach Atlantis again, so that Nur-Ab-Sal reclaims his power (somewhat like the One Ring wanted to find its way back to its master in Mordor). Indy freed her from the affection of the medallion and after the case, they restored their relations... but not for long, as with all of Indy's affairs. After WWII, Sophia landed a job with the CIA and caught up with Indiana Jones in the American Southwest in 1948. She showed up at various times during Indy's search for the tower of Babel (Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine), and their relationship was somewhat rekindled (in the end love scene, she calls him a "bastard," and then kisses him). Unfortunately for Sophia, she yet again becomes possessed, but of course, Indiana is able to break the spell.
