Games - Soulnado

The Soulnado is a fictional object found in the Mortal Kombat series of video games.

The Soulnado is a massive green swirl of tortured souls that are unlimited in number and is found in Shang Tsung
's palace in Outworld. It is comprised of a legion of various three-dimensional and two-dimensional human bodies enveloped in a rotating pillar of green aura. There are several types of "souls" engulfed in the Soulnado, including at least one enormous face that resembles a wrestler wearing a mask. The Soulnado debuted in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance back in 2002 and is probably one of the memorable features in Mortal Kombat.

The Soulnado was once a mythical large green swirl of souls that came from the Heavens in which Li Mei
and her people believed existed. It was believed that the Soulnado was the pathway in which the souls of those who died would ascend to, if they were of a good nature (since Outworld is for the better part, an evil realm). Because nobody had ever seen the Soulnado, the myth was unlikely to be true, but the place in which the Soulnado was believed to be was considered to be sacred and held in great awe and respect by Li Mei and her people -- for many years was this green swirl considered to be the pathway to heaven and a good lifestyle.

When Li Mei and her people were enslaved by Kano
and the Deadly Alliance to build temples and the places of interest for the Deadly Alliance, they were forced to build Shang Tsung's temple over the sacred opening of the Soulnado. As Shang Tsung's palace was finally completed, Quan Chi opened the portal that revealed the great Soulnado -- in which billions of souls were trapped, and the Soulnado was to serve as Shang Tsung's limitless source for souls. The myth of the Soulnado had come true, but the people of Li Mei were struck with a horrible realization -- they would never be free as long as the Deadly Alliance were in control. They would always die as slaves - whether they were physically working as slaves or consumed by Shang Tsung. It was then where a miracle was bestowed upon Outworld.

The Soulnado, while it seems to be a simple green swirl of tortured souls, they are said to be very dangerous if hurled in. Moloch
and Drahmin
hurled Scorpion
in the Soulnado, believing that he would be ripped apart by the endless numbers of souls that occupied the Soulnado. However, Scorpion wasn't torn apart by the souls -- he managed to ascend up to the heavens where he gained safety measures. It was there where Scorpion spied upon the fabled Elder Gods -- whom he did not believe existed, so Scorpion's experiences clearly state that the Soulando is in fact a portal to the heavens.
