Sparx the Dragonfly is a character in the Spyro the Dragon series. He is a dragonfly who protects Spyro on his adventures. Without Sparx, Spyro would die in one hit. Sparx disappears after 3 to 4 hits (depending on the game), after that, Spyro is on his own. Spyro can regain Sparx's health by attacking fodder (little animals such as sheep, frogs, bugs, etc). Sparx's color shows the status of health.

Sparx also helps Spyro pick up gems when he gets close to them. He reaches farther if health is full. In Spyro: Year of the Dragon, Sparx gets his own overhead shooting-type levels, although these were taken out in Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly, where the dragonflies themselves are the main focus.
