| Star Wars Diplomacy also known as SWDiplomacy is a free online player-based simulation revolving around the Star Wars universe. It was first conceived in 2004, it was the brainchild of George, Brent Powell, and was initially designed after SuperPower Classic. Since its creation in Spring of 2005 it has been in a constant state of development, by Brent Powell and other coders. SWDiplomacy is not affiliated with LucasArts in any way at all, and stands as an entirely fan-developed game. One of its most unique features is that it is developed largely by its players, and in March 2006 it had over 100 active members. Currently work on SWDiplomacy is still going on, and the game is being constantly worked on. How SWDiplomacy is playedSWDiplomacy is played on a forum, a heavily modified version of the Invision Power Board. Each new player is assigned a planet or non-government organization, and is then given control over that planet. The player has access to a built-in information sheet about his/her planet, and through the various built-in game functions he can administrate his planet from its military to its planetary budget. The player can partake in the discussions found in the Galactic Board where he can discuss and debate current or old issues with other players leading other planets. The player also has access to a number of private boards as well, available because his planet is the member of certain galactic or planetary organizations. Some players have access to a planetary forum because they share control over their planet with other players. This is usually only the case for large planets, such as the Coruscant. The player can create galactic or planetary issues by sending in actions to the game managers, called avatars. These actions are sent in through a mod made for SWDiplomacy alone, in which the action is sent to the avatars, and the avatars have the ability to archive the actions in several different folders on the database. The issues are then presented in news form by the avatars in the News Forum. The player also has the ability to create his own news in his Planetary News Forum. PoliticsSWDiplomacy is centered around politics. The idea of lobbying with other planets and organizations to get what you want, over fighting them for it. Hence the name "Star Wars Diplomacy". The avatars emphasize the use of politics over fighting as it saves up their time, because deciding battles takes more time to process, than the outcomes of a treaty or political action. It's also more realistic, as planets dont fight over everything imaginable, and mostly over that are justifiable to fight over.OrganizationsOne of the 's greatest strengths is its broad diversity of organizations that players can join. Each organization is player-created and while some encompass the canonical world of Star Wars such as the New Republic and the Imperial Remnant while, others exist solely in SWDiplomacy such as the Unified Consortium of Independent Planets, the United Federation Of Planets. There are around 10 active organizations. Each organization is comprised of at least a few planets banded together to pursue their political, economic, or militaristic goals; however there is no limit to the number of planets in a organization and some larger organizations include nearly half of the planets in the galaxy.TreatiesOne of the 's greatest strengths is its broad diversity of organizations that players can join. It is not however the unit of money for the galaxy, and is just used to simplify the economics. The credit is equivelent to 1,000,000 Republic Dataries, is the main currency in use in the Galaxy. All purchases of military units, technologies require credits and republic dataries. A planet to run military operations, or just about any action requires money. If a planet doesnt have any money in its treasury, it can take out what is called a loan from a planetary bank, and then the money is added to the planets Public Debt. This in turn slows down a planet's growth. Taking out loans is not always bad, as it can be required in time of crisis, like economic depression, or if your being invaded.
