Games - Supporting characters of Xenogears

The following are supporting characters from the PS1 game Xenogears.

A

Abel

As a young boy living in the Cosmic War era, Abel came into contact with Zohar when he accidentally stumbled upon a facility housing a Deus/Zohar connection experiment. The Wave Existence gave Abel its power so one day he could destroy Zohar, which would free the Existence to ascend back to the higher dimension. Abel had been searching for his mother when he made contact, and his desire to be with her imparted the Existence with a mother's will when he made contact. It constructed a woman using the biological computer Kadomoni, a component of the Deus system, to be with Abel, but Deus transformed the woman into the original Miang. Abel was the only human survivor of the Eldridge crash. Together with Elhaym, or Elly as he had come to call her he lived during the first years of life on the Xenogears planet. When Cain, Miang an the Gazel Ministry began laying down the foundations of what would be all their various control mechanisms in the developing human culture, Abel and Elly, now grown adults stepped forward and challenged them. Abel, having known the real truth of the matter and being the only true human on the planet was able to see through Cain's lies and called him on them in front of the whole world. Cain responded by murdering both him and Elly, however they would return eventually. Both Abel and Elly were continuously reincarnated through the Zohar until 9999 years later when Fei Fong Wong and Elhaym Van Houten were born. Fei is the last incarnation of Abel and the -Contact- who breaks Deus' hold on humanity and frees the Wave Existence. See also Abel.

Agnes, Sister

Sister Agnes is the next-most senior member in the hierarchy of the Nisan Church after Marguerite Fatima, the Holy Mother of Nisan. She took care of both Margie and her cousin Prince Bartholomew Fatima after their parents, Holy Mother Elvira and Bishop Francis Fatima and King Edbart Fatima IV and Queen Mariel Fatima respectively were killed by Shakhan's minions during his "revolution".

Alice

Alice is a young girl from Lahan Village and the older sister of Dan. Although she loves Fei Fong Wong and Timothy equally, she was forced to marry the latter due to strict Lahan Village customs. These traditions required that both spouses must be from Lahan Village. Unfortunately, she is killed in the Lahan village incident, along with her lover and a good portion of the town's population.

Anne

Anne is Rico's foster mother who looked after him in Nortune after he was returned from the labratories of the Ethos and Solaris. She took care of him as he was growing up and beginning to develop into a full demi-human. She suffered from a terminal illness and died when Rico was still a child.

B

Big Joe

Big Joe is a 4000 year old alcoholic originally from Zeboim who encounters the party at the most bizarre moments, including the Aveh tournament, in prison in Nortune, while the Ethos HQ and Shevat are under attack, in Etrenank and finally in the ruins of Zeboim. He is both a gear merchant and a thief. He also serves as comic relief throughout the game; Somehow he was locked in a nanoreactor and placed in suspended animation before Zeboim fell and woke up 4000 years later in the present day Xenogears era still thinking he was Elvis. He managed to win over a new fanbase.

C

Cain

Cain is known as the first human to be born on the planet along with Miang and the Gazel Ministry. He was pre-programmed from creation to carry out the will of Deus and constantly work towards his revival. His mind was always focused on protecting humanity until the time of "the Gospel" when Deus would be revived using all of humanity as spare parts. He was instrumental in creating all the myths, legends and religions of the world what would be used to keep humanity under his and the Ministry's control. Though Abel, the boy who survived the crash landing of the Eldridge and the first -Contact-, now grown into a man knew the truth of the matter and began to speak out to the planet's burgeoning human population against Cain and the Ministry's lies and sowed the seeds of a rebellion among the -Lambs-. Cain killed Abel and the original Elhaym to silence them, though the murder plagued his conscience and because of it he developed a guilt-driven sympathy for normal surface dwelling Humans, in effect breaking free of his programming to a degree. He served as the Emperor of Solaris and the de factor ruler of all life on the planet. A long time after the end of the Shevat-Solaris War Cain reached out and contacted Krelian and Miang at the Ministry's urging. They saw Krelian as a key asset in their grand plan so Cain came to Krelian and offered to help him achieve his goals if he would help them achieve theirs. Krelian agreed and he forged an alliance of mutual dependence with one another. However while Cain was sincere about coming to Krelian for his help to save his "children", the Ministry was not. Instead, they were looking to condemn humanity to death as a biological patch kit for their so-called god. As payment for his help Krelian performed an extensive procedure on Cain in order to extend his life indefinitely. Cain's coffin-like suit, mask, throne, and a good portion of the Imperial Palace in Etrenank was used to just keep him alive. He was once a strong ally of the Miang and the Gazel Ministry, though his actions over the many years caused a split between the Emperor, Miang and the Ministry. Cain was concerned for the general well-being of all life while the Gazel were only interested in themselves and Miang was only concerned about Deus. He was assassinated by Kharan Ramsus, a clone of himself created by Krelian intended to be an artificial -Contact- in the year 9999 after Eldridge's crash. Ramsus was manipulated into doing so by Miang at the behest of the ministry. Cain's death allowed Miang and the Gazel Ministry to use the Gaetia Key to raise Mahanon, the main hull of the Eldridge, from the ocean floor and turn the better majority of the world's population into -Wels- who would then be absorbed into Deus. Cain originally sent Citan to the surface in order to keep a constant vigil on Fei, the actual -Contact- after he was brought to Lahan by the Wiseman. Cain and Citan communicate via a telepathic link several times over the course of the game and Citan keeps the Emperor abreast of all the recent things happening around Fei and his group. We never see Cain's face beyond his orange skull-like mask which is used to keep him alive. It is speculated that Cain once looked exactly like Ramsus looks today because Ramsus is a direct clone of Cain. Though Cain’s mask was shattered by Ramsus' sword and fell off, his body was so decayed and blackened it was impossible to tell that he was ever once human to begin with. See also Cain.
