Games - Swordfish Studios

Swordfish Studios is a Birmingham, (UK) based software development company founded by Rage executive director Trevor Williams and Joan Finnegan (wife of Paul Finnegan, former managing director of Rage Software Limited).

In October 2002, in a claimed cost cutting exercise Rage Software sold its Birmingham development studio for £1 to Swordfish Studios. Following the sale, Mr Williams was to resign from Rage and Paul Finnegan, previously MD, would become executive deputy chairman. Rage also provided Swordfish with a £50,000 interest-free loan repayable in three years; Rage only lasted another 3 months. It has been suggested that far from being part of Rage's strategy to reduce costs, the sale seems was intended to act as part of the Finnegans' retirment plan.

Games developed by the company include two best selling International Rugby titles Brian Lara International Cricket 2005 and Cold Winter. In 2004, Swordfish Studios was named 'Developer of the Year' by the Independent Game Developers Association.

Swordfish Studios was acquired by Vivendi Universal Games in June 2005.
