Tapping is used in many different games as a technical term for various actions. In collectible card games such as Magic: The Gathering to tap a card means to use it so that it cannot be used again in that player's turn. It is usually accomplished by turning the card 90 degrees to the right.

In poker, tapping refers to an attempt to force an opponent to go all-in by wagering the amount of the target player's stack. Consequently, this act is done by a player who has a significant lead in chips and is seen by some as an unsporting move (because of the targeted nature of the wager).
