Tapping is used in many different games as a technical term for various actions. In collectible card games such as Magic: The Gathering

In poker, tapping refers to an attempt to force an opponent to go all-in by wagering the amount of the target player's stack. Consequently, this act is done by a player who has a significant lead in chips and is seen by some as an unsporting move (because of the targeted nature of the wager).
