What is Tarvos?

Tarvos is one of the 8 Phases from the series of games known as .hack. Tarvos is the seventh phase in the game, and the last that you defeat using the traditional method, which involves using attacking the monster until you lower it's hitpoints so it enters Protect Break status, allowing you to then using the Data Drain skill to make Tarvos lose it's infinite hitpoints.

Tarvos is found in the last of the 4-series of .hack games, .hack//QUARANTINE. The phase prior to Tarvos is Macha, the Temptress, and the phase after Tarvos is known as Corbenik, the Rebirth.

How does the fight go?

Tarvos is like all of the phases in that he can use the Data Drain skill to inflict all the status effects in the game on a single character at one time, making them entirely immobile until you use the two healing items, Restorative and Antidote, on the effected character. He also has the annoying attack known to most .hack players as "The Jump Attack" that effects the entire surrounding area and hits for a large amount of Hitpoints. It is easily avoided by running away from Tarvos.

One way that Tarvos differs from earlier phases is that he alternates between having a magical attack barrier and a physical attack barrier, similar to the boss known as Cubia. This makes the fight relatively tedious. He also uses several magic attacks that damage the whole party quite heavily.
