Games - The Legend of Zelda

The Legend of Zelda is a cartoon series based on the popular Legend of Zelda video games created by Shigeru Miyamoto. The series only lasted one season, airing on U.S. television from 1989 to 1990. Episodes were shown weekly as part of The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!
. The series was produced by DiC, in association with Nintendo of America
. However, Link, Zelda and Ganon were all gueststars on Captain N: The Game Master
with only a slight change of appearance from this cartoon. __TOC__

Show premise

The show is set during the first Legend of Zelda game, the series follows the adventures of Link
as he bravely defends the kingdom of Hyrule
from an evil wizard Ganon
and his dim-witted minions. Most episodes consist of Ganon attempting to capture the Triforce
of Wisdom from the beautiful Princess Zelda
, or Ganon coming up with some other scheme (often seemingly much more complex and confusing than would've been necessary) to gain total power in Hyrule.

A common running gag of the series was Link's repeated failures to convince the somewhat obstinate Zelda he deserved a kiss for heroic deeds. Link's fairy sidekick Sprite was always willing to give him a kiss, but he never seemed to notice. This may have influenced the later misconception among gamers that Link and Zelda are a romantic item, something never directly implied in any of the video games.

Link occasionally met Zelda's put-upon behavior with a sarcastic "Well excuse me, Princess", a phrase which entered gamer culture. It was even used in the infamous Zelda games released for the CD-i
.
