	Games - The Space Gamer

The Space Gamer started out as an in-house publication of Metagaming. Metagaming was a small gaming publisher in the late 70's that developed an innovative packaging design. This was used to publish a number of inexpensive Microgames that competed with the better known, but more expensive Avalon Hill. The Space Gamer promoted these games, was well as supporting products of other companies. Many of Metagaming's games would go on to become classics, including Ogre, Melee and Warp War. They would also make Metagaming's best known game designer Steve Jackson into a star.

When Metagaming went bankrupt, these games reverted to their original designers. Steve Jackson took his titles, and the rights to The Space Gamer, and started his own company Steve Jackson Games. The Space Gamer, now called The Space Gamer & Fantasy Gamer, was published by SJG for a number of years. Eventually the rights were sold to World Wide War, and then changed hands several times before landing with Better Games. Better Games, now renamed , has kept the publication going by reinventing it through the net.

Due to the quality and novelty of scenarios, articles and games that appeared in various issues, back issues of The Space Gamer remain in demand today.
