Games - Thom McKee

Thom McKee was an officer in the United States Navy who was a contestant on the television game show Tic Tac Dough in 1980. He set a number of game-show winnings records:

  • Most won in regular play - $312,700 in cash and prizes (adjusted to today's dollars; almost $800,000)
  • Most wins - 43
  • Most consecutive days on a game show - 46
  • Most consecutive games played on a game show - 88 (Record: 43-1-44).
  • Most games played on a game show - 89 (Includes Tournament of Champions)
The latter two records were broken by 100% contestant Ian Lygo
in 1998, while the first record was broken by John Carpenter on November 19th, 1999, when he won one million dollars on Who Wants to be a Millionaire?. Jeopardy!
contestant Ken Jennings
also beat that record, by more, in 2004-2005, but he narrowly failed in beating the second record, and only tied the third.

The record for most consecutive games played, 88, stays intact, with Ian Lygo and Ken Jennings both playing 75 consecutive games each, with Jennings having played 78 overall games of Jeopardy!, when you consider his three-day Ultimate Tournament of Champions.

  • Also, in the annals of Tic Tac Dough, Thom won the biggest pot in the history of the game, worth $36,800, after surviving four tie games.
  • On Tic Tac Dough, if a player won five games, he won a car. Since Thom won 43 games, he won eight cars. (He later said he sold them all.)
