| Tikal (弾ニ達ニ谷ニ停ケ in Japanese and Tikaru in romanization) is a fictional character from the Sonic the Hedgehog universe. She is a light orange echidna with blue eyes. Tikal first appeared in the game Sonic Adventure for Sega Dreamcast, which was released in Japan on December 23, 1998. Her character is described as 14 years old, 3'1" tall, and 52.8 lbs in weight. The character was designed by Yuji Uekawa. Tikal is named after a ruined Mayan city, and her father shares the name of both an Inca solar deity and a city of the Inca Empire. The pyramid in the Mystic Ruins resembles the city of Tikal's, and the Lost World level retains aspects of Maya ruins, such as the rotating snake and the jade. Tikal's attire is also based on it, and her name is Mayan for bread. Tikal is the daughter of Chief Pachacamac and is said to have originated from the same tribe as Knuckles the Echidna. Her mother died when she was young, so she was raised by her grandmother. Tikal respected her and believed everything she taught, causing her to become a pacifist. After her grandmother passed away, Tikal followed her wishes to oppose Pachacamac's power-hungry ways. Storyline in Sonic AdventureIn the game Sonic Adventure, Tikal has begged her father many times to stop his ways, saying it wasn't the right path to peace, but to no avail. As consolation, Tikal sought peace at the Master Emerald shrine near the Mystic Ruins (Angel Island had not floated into the sky). She would play with the Chao that lived there and talk to the water spirit, Chaos.Later, Pachacamac realized that the Chaos Emeralds and the Master Emerald at the shrine could give his tribe total power, so he and a group of his warriors went to the shrine to take them. Tikal pleaded with them once more to stop, saying that once they had greed, they would always want more. Pachacamac ignored her and ordered his men to charge forward. The warriors knocked down Tikal and many Chao on the way (possibily killing some). However, as they approached the Master Emerald, Chaos, the Chao's guardian, was enraged and used the Chaos Emeralds to turn into Perfect Chaos to kill Pachacamac and the warriors. Later, Tikal awoke and saw that Chaos was wreaking havoc on the world. She ran to the Master Emerald and remembering a wise saying (or spell) from her grandmother, requested that the Master Emerald stop Chaos. The Master Emerald then trapped Tikal and Chaos' soul in it (it is not said why the Master Emerald took Tikal's spirit as well). The remaining echidnas that lived made it their duty to protect the Master Emerald to assure that Chaos would never be released again. A few thousand years later, Doctor Eggman found the ancient tablets describing the event and shattered the Master Emerald to free Chaos. When the Master Emerald broke, Tikal's spirit, in the form of a red glowing ball of light, was freed. Later, when Chaos acquired all seven Chaos Emeralds, he used their negative energies to become Perfect Chaos and attempted to destroy Station Square. Tikal appeared and told Sonic that Chaos must be sealed inside the Master Emerald now or else he would destroy the world again. Sonic, however, said that Chaos's heart would still remain in turmoil, and his anger wouldn't vanish. Sonic then used the positive energy of the Chaos Emeralds to become Super Sonic and defeat Chaos. When Chaos was neutralized, Tikal explained that the Chao now lived in peace with everyone and life goes on. Chaos and Tikal then rose into the air and disappeared. Tikal has not been seen since, and it is unknown where she went. A populary theory is that she went back to the Master Emerald, but this has been proven to be untrue, for when it shattered in Sonic Adventure 2, she was not to be seen. However, it is also possible that Tikal died when the Master Emerald sealed her and Chaos, but it cannot be confirmed. PersonalityTikal is a passionate, gentle pacifist. She never wavered in her attempt to oppose Pachacamac and is determined to have her tribe in peace. She has tried to stop her father in amicable ways and have never once resorted to violence. Her peaceful temperament and beliefs drastically contradict with her father's, who was fierce and warlike. Though she begged him to stop in his conquest, his greed and ambition overcame everything else, eventually causing him to lose his love for his daughter.[ Visit the complete Wikipedia entry for Tikal the Echidna ] | Searches on eBay |
