| Tony Knowles (born 13 June, 1955) is an English professional snooker player. Knowles, from Bolton, shot to prominence in 1982 when he destroyed defending champion Steve Davis 10-1 in the first round of the World Championship, earning him overnight stardom in a period when the sport was reaching its peak of popularity. He also won the Jameson International in 1982, and a year later was victorious in the Professional Players Tournament, and reached the semi-finals of the World Championship. As a result, he moved to four in the rankings. He remained in the top sixteen until 1989/90, peaking at number two. eclipsed only by Davis. Knowles, a good-looking man with a trendy haircut, was consequently one of very few players ever to bring sex appeal to the game. He tried to capitalise on this by revealing certain exploits to a tabloid newspaper, and was charged with bringing the game into disrepute. In the 1990s his form and star waned, though he continued to play professionally. [ Visit the complete Wikipedia entry for Tony Knowles (snooker player) ] | Searches on eBay |
