Tradesports, similar to Betfair, is an on-line trading exchange. Unlike Betfair, Tradesports (or TS) accepts customers from all addresses so long as the customer certifies to them that they can join the exchange.

Tradesports is considered the premier exchange for North American events - sports and daily financial bets - while Betfair has more liquidity in global and European events. The most liquid contracts on Tradesports are nationally televised football games (NFL and NCAA) as well as daily financial contracts (such as, Will the Dow close higher today?).

The Tradesports platform is especially suited for trading live sporting events while the event is taking place ("in-play") and this is where Tradesports excels over online bookies. On most days there are several games that are available "in-play" and have guaranteed liquidity between plays from independent market makers.

As an exchange, Tradesports provides a way for customers to make trades but does not participate in trading itself. TS does make contractual agreements with market makers, who promise to offer two-sided markets in certain contracts in exchange for paying lower fees.

Tradesports has also developed a niche as a Prediction market with a special emphasis on US Politics, Current Event and Geo-Political trading.

Tradesports markets trade in the Binary 0-100 format. If a contract / bet pays off, it settles at 100 which = $10 per contract or share; if it is a loser, it settles at 0 or $0. In this way, the current price can be imputed as the probability that the specified event will occur.

Tradesports recently launched a new pari-mutual pool platform for US horse racing at www.tradehorseracing.com. TS pays on average 14.5% better odds than at the Track. Clients will soon be able to sell short horses on the site and act as liquidity providers, taking the opposite of customer order flow.

Tradesports has also applied to the CFTC for permission to open a regulated futures exchange in the United States.
