War Rock is a game influenced by Battlefield 2 (War Rock was however initially released before Battlefield 2). It is currently scheduled to go into a closed beta test on February 28, 2006, however the developers plan to charge for it eventually.
As of February 23th, "War Rock Beta game will no longer be executed through warrock.net" as it seems open beta has ended and next release might a have price tag.
=Information=
The English version features several maps, several vehicles, and limited weapons. The player has the choice of a number of classes, with each class having a different weapon set, and ostensibly different role and tactics. The game also features a ranking system. Future international versions are said to include more maps, an item shop, as well as aircrafts. The Korean version has airplanes, more maps, CS Mode, and an itemshop.
In order to combat growing levels of cheating in the international version, the game now uses the nprotect Gameguard. The Korean version uses GuardCAT. Despite this, there are still a number of cheaters, hackers, and bots within the game.
=Classes=
WarRock players can pick from five basic classes:
- Military Engineers are armed with a MP5 submachinegun and a Spanner (wrench, which is capable of repairing both friendly and enemy vehicles.) Their ability to repair vehicles can prove crucial, even lifesaving in some battles. Their MP5s are good in short-medium ranges as the MP5s are more accurate than the K2.
- Medics also carry a MP5 submachinegun as well as a MediKit to heal themselves, teammates as well as enemies. The Medic's ability to heal is somewhat limited in that the damage is repaired incrementally and severe damage requires multiple treatments. Furthermore, the MediKit must recharge between healings.
- Scouts, the sniper class of WarRock, are armed with a M24 Sniper Rifle as well as K400 Fragmentation Grenades. Scouts have the longest ranges of any of the classes and can have a significant impact on the game. Scouts usually die the least and acquire a substantial number of kills. Scouts are pretty much useless at short range as of the other classes (except heavy weapons) have a faster rate of fire. Future patches will include the ability to spot enemies using binoculars as well as call in aerial bombings.
- Combatants are armed with a Daewoo K2 assault rifle along with K400 Fragmentation Grenades. Their K2 assault rifle is less accurate than the MP5, but has more ammunition and a greater rate of fire. Future updates will expand this class kit to include the M249 SAW Machinegun. Combatants should be used to storm enemy bases and to cause havoc in the main base as well. Although they make up the most of the kills in the game, they also die the most.
- Heavy Weapons Units are the anti-armor class of War Rock and use a Panzerfaust 3 as well as Anti-tank mines. As in Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield Vietnam, the mines can be thrown directly at vehicles to deadly effect—often for the thrower as well. Future updates will include RPG-29 or similar models. Heavy Weapons Units are most effective in anti-vehicle roles and suffer greatly in firefights with infantry. They are notorious for getting sniped, have a very slow rate of fire, their ammunitions need constant restocking, and if the anti-tank weapons run out, they're useless.
All above classes carry a Colt M1911A1 pistol (or a similar model handgun) and can engage in hand-to-hand combat by selecting "Knuckle" i.e. your fists for a weapon.
=Vehicles=
Note: Vehicles are not found in the Harbor IDA map.
- K1A1 Heavy Tank - The driver utilizes a 120mm cannon for anti-vehicle roles and a 50cal machine gun mounted with the cannon turret. The secondary position controls it's own 50cal machine gun, but leaves the user exposed. The tank has high defense and requires multiple RPG rounds to be subdued. Found in Ohara and Havana.
- Wiesel 1 Light Tank - Found in Emblem. These tanks are small but they also decide outcomes.
- CR125 - Motorbike (unarmed). Used for quick and agile transport but leaves the rider unprotected. Found in all maps.
- Humvee - The all-purpose vehicle. This vehicle is useful for a number of things including swift killing, reconnaisance, and simple transportation. Their guns are very versatile with their unlimited ammo and a faster fire rate than tanks. The gunner position leaves the user unprotected, even more so if the vehicle is stationary. Found in all maps.
- Truck 60 - An unarmed vehicle. This vehicle is highly subceptible to enemy fire and it has very weak defenses. Found in Ohara.
- Fixed M2 .50 Machine Gun - Uses the vehicle command to use. The M2 has a fast rate of fire useful for providing suppression fire. Use of the M2 leaves the user immobile and extremely vulnerable. Found in all maps.
