Games - XGP

The XGP is a portable video game system created by the Korean company GamePark
as the follow-up to its GP32
handheld. Initially announced in 2005 , the XGP was finally announced in March 2006 along with the release of the similar XGP Mini .

The XGP is one of two successors to the GP32 handheld console. The other is the GP2X
; this was created by Gamepark Holdings, a separate company that split off from Gamepark in early 2005 and which consists of all but one of the engineers responsible for the original GP32.

While the GP32 was only available in select markets (Korea and parts of Europe and Asia), or had to be imported, it is thought that the XGP will be marketed worldwide.

Design

The XGP system focuses more on commercial gaming and is made to directly compete against the Sony PSP
and Nintendo DS
market. Unlike the GP32 it will not be designed for easy creation of programs (emulators, games, utilities, etc) by amateurs; this is in contrast to the GP2X which will focus on user created programs. However, this does not mean homebrew and indie games will not be made for it, as the ability to use Linux on it has been officially announced now as well. Both the XGP and the GP2X are also designed as multimedia players for things such as movies and MP3s. The XGP has a wider screen with greater resolution (4", 480 by 272), but the GP2X has larger pixels and a resolution more suited for emulating systems (3.5", 320 by 240 - most older consoles and computers had a resolution similar to this). The XGP's screen is wider while the GP2X's screen is slightly taller.

The XGP Mini is similar to the XGP, but with a smaller screen, no wireless connectivity and only 32MB of SDRAM; this is focused on competing with the Game Boy micro.
