| Xombie is a Flash cartoon created by James Farr, set in a post-apocalyptic Earth in the near future -- a world without hope, in many ways comparable to that portrayed in the later installments of George A. Romero's "Living Dead" film series. Zombies are rampant in this climate, due to the existence of a germ called Nekrosis, which reincarnates the bodies (But usually not the minds) of animals and humans 2 to 3 minutes after death. The setting is 2033 A.D. in Destiny City, on the American east coast. The plot centers on Dirge, a "Xombie" or variant, who has retained his human nature and sensibilities despite coming back as one of the undead, though he has lost all of his memories. He spends the vast majority of his time in an underground room filled wall-to-wall with books, and has installed a chamber that can be filled with embalming fluid to keep himself and his zombie dog, Cerberus, from decomposing. This is only a temporary solution, and he faces the inescapable fact that some day he will completely rot away. Name: Dirge Etymology: Mournful lyric, also Latin for "to direct or lead." Height: 6'7" Status: Undead yet sentient (xombified) The quintessential zombie, save for one important detail. Through a bizarre neurochemical loophole unique unto him, Dirge remains fully self-aware - cursed to watch his body decompose around him. He is compelled by an urge to protect the living, but can't remember why. Though his strangely humane motivations remain nebulous at best, perhaps by saving one human life, Dirge can attone for his inhuman cravings. If he can bring Zoe home safe and alive, perhaps he's more human than monster after all. Name: Nephthys Etymology: A beneficial deity who offered both guidance and comfort to the dead. A bringer of life into the world, and rebirth into the land of the dead. Height: 5'11" Status: Undead yet self-aware (xombified) Discovered beneath the dunes of a forgotten Egyptian city, Nephthys' body found itself studied at the hands of historians, and reanimated by the sentient zombie germ - Nekrosis. At almost 2000 years old, she may very well be the oldest zombie 'alive', second only to her prehistoric pet. Like Dirge, Nephthys retains her self-awareness, but is bereft of memories from her past life. Only time will tell who she truly is, and how her body came to rest in the Destiny City Natural History Museum. Name: Zoe Etymology: Greek for "life." Height: 3'7" Status: Living A lost little little girl with a talent for attracting danger. Having awoken in the sand, with little memory to guide her, many of her origins remain unexplained. Random and uncontrollable flashbacks seem to hint at the nameless disaster responsible for seperating her from her family. With time, her true memories of the past may gradually surface. Name: Cerberus Etymology: A monster, in the shape of a three-headed dog, guarding the entrance into the infernal regions. Height: 4'2" Status: Undead yet well-trained Loyal companion to Dirge, and all around work of art, Cerberus is more stitches than skin. Once a highly-trained police dog, he attacks only when instructed, making mince-meat of anything foolish enough to provoke him. Though not fully sentient like his undead companion, Cerberus remains exceedingly well-trained. Even in death. Name: Chimaera Etymology: A fire-breathing she-monster and / or a grotesque product of the imagination. Height: 5'6" Status: Undead, untrainable, unpredictable Quick frozen nearly 80 million years ago, Chimaera was miraculously well-preserved through time. Having been thawed for research by the Destiny City Paleological Society, her body was re-animated by the sentient zombie germ - Nekrosis. What was once a ferocious predator in life, is now an unstoppable force in death. The Hands of God are an enigmatic legion of seemingly sentinent machines. Who they serve (If anyone) is not clear at this point, but they weild great power over the deserted Destiny City, and have the ability to analyze their foes in mere seconds for physical history and mental prowess. Their purpose is "Weapons disposal," with Dirge being the "Weapon" in question. There are seven chapters in the web series. A DVD movie deal is currently in the works, courtesy of Wetsand Animation. The series has reached thousands via the web thanks to Newgrounds, and new fans are constantly signing up on the forums. [ Visit the complete Wikipedia entry for Xombie ] | Searches on eBay |
