Games - ZZTAE

ZZTAE is a DOS
-based program used for editing game files created for the ANSI-based computer game ZZT. Originally released on September 6, 2001, it was authored by CyQ using Microsoft
's QuickBASIC
. Several revised versions were subsequently released, with October 1, 2001's release bringing the program to its current version of 1.0.1.

ZZTAE was created as a replacement for ZZT's internal game editor, with the intention of simplifying and streamlining the often difficult process of creating ZZT-based games. ZZTAE sports a number of features that go above and beyond the capabilities of ZZT's internal editor, including an improved object editor, enhanced graphical capabilities, and various other aesthetic and functional improvements. Early versions of ZZTAE were known to be somewhat crash-prone, but the editor is quite stable in its latest incarnarion.

The ZZTAE web site, while still online, does not appear to have been updated since the release of version 1.0.1. The current status of the project is unknown.
